The Los Angeles Times has announced the unveiling of the first acts booked for the free concert lineup for the 2016 BET Experience. Among the list of performers are new chart-topper Desiigner, rapping brother duo Rae Sremmurd, Hip-Hop veterans Fat Joe and Remy Ma, and a musical fresh breath of air: Chloe x Halle.

The seventeen and sixteen-year-old have had quite the start of 2016. The two blended seamlessly dressed in white featured alongside model Winnie Harlow and actresses Quvenzhané Wallis, Zendaya, and Amandla Sternberg sitting in the poplar trees a part of the historic visual experience, ‘LEMONADE’.

The Atlantan alternative R&B duo signed to Parkwood Entertainment, after their cover of ‘Pretty Hurts’ went viral. Members of the campsite Beyoncé as very involved and supportive of the Bailey sisters and the proof is their EP ‘Sugar Symphony’ released at the start of May, receiving critical acclaim.

‘Sugar Symphony’ is enchanting, to say the least. Despite their youth, the sisters have created a collection of tracks with themes that are universal and a complexity able to satisfy a listener’s playful ear and desire to connect. The layered sounds stretch and contract, melting soulful R&B, 808s, and Trap sounds below the two very different but seamlessly complementary voices; making lyrics like: “Monday morning, rain is pouring, let’s be boring,” sweeter and more endearing than they already are.

‘Drop’, the first song on the EP is my personal favourite, the track narrates a relationship with toxic love through a metaphor about a favourite song. A haunting chorus repeats:

But time stops, when your beat drops, touching a place of vulnerability that I was not aware of. I am more than looking forward to a full-length project by these girls. Strong, talented, and aware of who they are Chloe x Halle has entered the entertainment industry with a humbled authenticity that I believe Ice-T oh so perfectly captures, “She walks softly but she carries a big gun.
