Have you ever experienced emotional detachment from the person you believed was “your person”? I know… merely thinking about it probably hurts your soul, and I’m sorry. Grief or heartbreak is a tricky feeling to steer. When I am in those moments, it feels like I’ve unlocked a heap of feelings—some more forgiving than others.
If any of this hits home for you, then you may be able to relate to the beaming composition by <Jaïr Faria.
I heard the song on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist on Saturday night (August 15). Instantly, the simple yet heart-tugging storytelling resonated. I shared in his pain and could observe life from a young man’s perspective and mine. So when Netflix’s Tudum described him as an artist showcasing “personal storytelling that give(s) voice to queer, Black experiences rarely seen front and centre in mainstream music”, I nodded at the Black Rock Coalition and James Spooner’s Afropunk.
In an interview he gave to PinkWifi, he described his songs as snapshots of different moments he’s been through in his life. According to the article, a young Jaïr Faria sang in another language, and he didn’t become a professional musician until he graduated high school. After posting cover videos of himself online in 2024, he released an original song called ‘Broken Heart’. Subsequently, he took multiple trips to Los Angeles.
This year, the genre-defying artist performed a cover of Kings of Leon’s hit song ‘Use Somebody’ on the Netflix revival of the trailblazing televised entity, Star Search. The ‘August’ crooner told PinkWifi that he plans to release more new music before the year ends. As his new fans, we are looking forward to its fruition.
