Watch Alternative-Indie star K.Flay’s nostalgic video for ‘Ants’
‘Ants’ digs into consumerism, disillusionment, and complicity, whilst her display of agonised honesty is as intimate as it gets.
Today, American songwriter and performer K.Flay shared the high-energy video for ‘Ants’. It starts with the Alternative-Indie star lying in bed with a white double dress and a tie. Next, her alarm clock annoyingly wakes her. Shockingly, time reverses, and she immediately heads to her work desk. Amid several notebooks and crumpled pages, she reaches for her cassette player. She removes the tape and goes outside.
About the record, the GRAMMY nominated artist said, “‘Ants is about the destructive nature of power. It’s an expression of the disillusionment I feel when I look out at the world right now, when I see what corporations and governments and billionaires are doing. It’s also an expression of my own sense of culpability. Because I wear boots. I kill ants. So there are levels to this power, this loss. And as humans, we all have to decide—whether consciously or not—how much we’re willing to destroy.”
In preparing to write this article, we researched what she’s been up to. We didn’t know she experienced permanent hearing loss in 2022. Thankfully, she continues to make music and tour.
We haven’t seen her perform in many years, but it would be a delight to see her soon.
K.Flay is currently shipping off on a support tour with Evanescence and Poppy in the United Kingdom, with one United States date in Red Rocks Ampitheatre on October 26.
