From ‘No Scrubs’ to the ballot—the R&B hitmaker gets her flowers.

Kandi Burruss just earned a Songwriters Hall of Fame nomination. The R&B hitmaker joins the 2027 ballot in the songwriter category.
Burruss co-wrote ‘No Scrubs’ for TLC. If you didn’t know, she helped pen ‘Bills, Bills, Bills’, which gave Destiny’s Child their first Hot 100 chart-topper. Her credits also include NSYNC’s ‘It Makes Me Ill’ and Pink’s ‘There You Go’. She has written for Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men too. Clearly, she shaped the sound of modern Pop and R&B.
The news moved her to happy tears. She sits on a list that also features Lady Gaga and Shakira. The Hall honours writers twenty years after a first commercial release. Burruss clears that bar with ease.
Eligible members vote until December 14. Subsequently, the Hall will reveal its inductees in early 2027. Whilst the wait continues, one thing is certain. Burruss wrote the soundtrack to a generation.
