Yesterday, Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido gifted his fans with the official music video for ‘I Know Who I Be’ featuring leading 3-Step producer JAZZWRLD and artist GL_Ceejay. In the video, the ‘Champion Sound’ artist shows himself as a young boy and then as a young man forging his way through success as a musician. As famously told in several interviews, Mr Adeleke did not want his son to perform music. Against his father’s wishes, he became one of the world’s most successful entertainers.
Therefore, the title of the song is fitting. What also piqued my interest was the scene where longtime collaborators and fellow artists like Peruzzi, Mayorkun, Zlatan, and Asa Asika stand near a set of stairs.
“‘I Know Who I Be’ is more than a song, it’s a reminder that no matter where life takes you, your roots will always be your greatest strength”, says Davido of the record. “I know who I be — and after more than 15 years of creating music, the world knows who I am, too.”
A month ago, the “King of Afrobeats” teased the then-untitled song on his social media pages, namely Instagram, where he has over thirty million followers and counting.
