Victony went to Sway’s Universe in 2024. His name was mispronounced seven times.

Now that his hotly anticipated album ‘Starlife’ is out and a well-known, respected American agency represents him, it’s time to address the elephant in the room. As more music fans begin to discover his talent, they’ll naturally want to know how to address him.

Victony’s real name is Anthony Ebuka Victor, a portmanteau.

As with most people named Anthony, it is shortened to “Tony”, making his name. How should you say his name? Think “Vick-Tony”.

Two years ago, the global African star sat with legendary radio personality Sway on Sway’s Universe. Notably, the renowned Oakland culture commentator called Victony—“Vick-tunny”—and every time I heard it, I wondered why he wasn’t gently corrected… or why he wasn’t briefed on how to pronounce his name. It’s possible because Tems did it.

During her appearance on The Breakfast Club, Tems gently corrected Charlamagne tha God after he mispronounced Asake’s name as “sake” or “asak”. She broke down the proper pronunciation step-by-step for him, explaining that it sounds like “air” plus “shake” without pronouncing the “r” sound.
