YBN Cordae released his debut studio album ‘The Lost Boy’ some days ago. As you can imagine, it was well-received, making faithful fans proud and turning a bunch of new music lovers to believers. Ahead of its release, the artist performed ‘RNP’—my personal favourite off of the album)—with featured artist Anderson .Paak on Fallon Tonight. Other featured artists on the album include Chance the Rapper, Pusha T, Meek Mill, and Ty Dolla $ign. In recent years, Cordae proves himself to be, perhaps, the most promising artist to come out of the YBN Hip-Hop collective—giving the group’s founder, YBN Nahmir, a run for his money. The album is a testimony to what makes the rapper stand out.

Cordae’s palette ranges between emotional, heartfelt, introspective and upbeat, as you listen to the album track-by-track. One of his more emotional tracks, ‘Broke As Fuck’, details the trauma he has experienced in life. The first half of the song is unfiltered, the beat is grimy, and the beat switch indicates how the way the rapper’s life changed; and continues to change.

The most impressive element of ‘The Lost Boy’ album is that it does a complete 180 as far as subject matter goes; addressing topics such as cheating, family issues, thankfulness, and joy. Rather than mumbling over catchy beats, he leans toward lyricism and thought-provoking rhymes. Cordae is a standout talent. The 21-year-old’s future seems bright.
