Kanye West Receives Honorary Doctorate

It looks like rapper Kanye West finally got his fairy-tale ending when the self-proclaimed college dropout received an honorable doctorate from his dream school this week. Following in the footsteps of many greats before him, West was chosen by the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to receive the honor for his, “transformative genre-defying work,” recognizing his success as qualifying prerequisites to satisfy the credits needed to receive a degree. What initially sparked the school’s decision to choose the artist as the honored candidate was West’s public recognition of the school in a previous lecture at Oxford Guild Business Society, stating that he wishes he would have attended Art Institute instead of the American Academy of Art. During the graduation, some rare and interesting things occurred: West admitting he was nervous, discussing how degrees are like badges of acceptance, and smiling ear-to-ear. Presenting an interesting perspective that makes you wonder how important is that expensive piece of paper, the rapper stated during his speech, “And it’s these Floyd Mayweather belts that are needed to prove what I’ve been saying my entire life.”
