Song of the Day: ‘Move That Dope’ featuring Pharrell Williams, Pusha T, and Casino by Future

There are a lot of songs by Future that I love (‘Sh!t’, ‘March Madness’, ‘Groupies’, ‘Stick Talk’ ‘F*ck Up Some Commas’, ‘Xanny Family’, ‘Photo Copied’ and more), but this one gets me every time.

First of all, hearing Pharrell’s production and vocals satisfied the highschooler in me. All of the melodies are amazing. I think the record should have had a longer shelf life. What an impressive way to support the new guys (at the time). Pusha T (one half of the Clipse) is one of the modern-day trappers we fell in love with after hearing ‘Grindin”. In the extended album version, there’s a verse by a rapper named Casino (who is also Future’s brother and the Freebandz label CEO). He is not in the video below. However, you can stream the version with him via the following link.

I must admit when ‘Pluto’ came out I was engulfed in the EDM world, but it doesn’t take away from the impact he was able to make during a time that EDM ruled and influenced the mainstream culture. In retrospect, I think we do not celebrate his genius and innovation as we should in pop culture. Multiple music institutions/award shows have nominated him for awards. However, he only took home BET Awards/BET Hip-Hop/Much Music Video Awards. Hopefully, it will change soon—the awards or his due perpetual praise. It probably doesn’t mean much to him, but I think it makes a difference.

Accordingly, watch the official video for ‘Move That Dope’ below. On the whole, I am pretty sure you have watched it at least once, but it does not hurt to take a trip down memory lane!
