Rap cabaret NOLA darling Boyfriend shares tongue-in-cheek Trap single ‘Pinky Out’: Listen

Keepin’ it cute, sis, over a Trap beat

Boyfriend is je ne sais quoi because she labelled her own genre known as “rap cabaret”. According to her Wikipedia page, the term “rap cabaret” has to do with her “emphasis on performance in her music”. For those who are just arriving, the artist known as Boyfriend is a woman. Remember when being a fan of The Weeknd meant knowing TW was a he and not a group? Remember the dvsn confusion? Boyfriend’s name is as eclectic, different, and interesting as her persona and story are. Aesthetically, Boyfriend wears vintage lingerie and big hair rollers. She hails from Tennessee as the daughter of an award-winning Country songwriter and producer known as Monty Powell. She came into her persona after she moved to New Orleans. Her style reminds you of a 2010 Kreayshawn with the use of repetition and a catchy hook over a super fire Trap beat.

The beginning of the song has horns reminiscent to ‘Suavemente’ by Elvis Crespo that packs so much energy into the track. Boyfriend comes in letting you know of her porcelain riches and that when you are sipping in her house, “you better have your pinky’s out”. Sounds.by.dj and Pyro definitely made magic on this with the crazy sample flip and 808s. The two minutes and fifty-six seconds is nothing but debauchery. The beat has a different type of crank to it in which you are not sure to show your grill or to hit a Picante salsa.

Boyfriend is an artist to watch this Summer. Her track ‘Pinky Out’ is something to add to your fun playlist. You know, the playlist you play in order to motivate you to get up and moving. ‘Pinky Out’ is a song in which she tells you to mind your manners when she serves you Southern hospitality.
