Last week, I interviewed the new generation of Ruff Ryders: one of the greatest independent record labels from the late eighties. Honestly, as I think about where I am in the grand scheme of this business–it makes perfect sense. After launching the careers of two amazing children of music celebrities, speaking to Lil’ Waah was fate. Growing up, I admired and studied the greats. Lil’ Waah, son of Joaquin “Waah” Dean, is carrying the torch with Ruff Ryders Indy. His sound is of the times and rightfully different than the label’s classic releases. Watch the video below, and get familiar with the 14-year-old Ruff Ryders Indy artist. Swizz Beatz’s first cousin has been at it for at least three years. He has a freestyle to Bobby Shmurda’s infamous “Hot N*gga.”
MC Fizzy “Trap Trap Trap” (Personal)
As Grime continues to impress North Americans and influence them to talk with British accents, I’m just happy it finally translated. More than one thousand years ago, I was introduced to the style, and have been in love since. As I showed SBTV to a friend over the weekend, I saw the official for MC Fizzy’s “Trap Trap Trap.” Instantly, the instrumental made me dance. Hopefully, it does the same to you.
