Beat knock, truck bangin’ (truck bangin’)
And I’m hood famous, but you don’t know my name
Driving me insane (my name), will you ever know?
    Know, know, know (my name)
    You don’t (know my name)
    It’s a shame
    Hope you feel the same
They all be asking ’bout me
And I just keep checking for you
Give you my heart and whatever else you want, baby

Take you home, meet my mama
All eyes on me but your own (but your own)
Nothing to you, just unknown, ooh (swangin’)
You don’t know my name (ooh)
Driving me insane (driving me insane)

    I be your friend
    I be your
I could be more than a friend
    More than a lover
    More than enough for you
    Can’t get enough of ya

Some flowers never get to bloom and see the day
Some flowers are content to wish their lives away
Some may rise and some may fall
But only you may ever see me true
So only you can tell that this is who I am
    This is who I am
And you know me like a river knows how to flow
My body is the story you were always told
The sun may rise, the sun may fall
But only you may ever see me true
So only you can tell that this is who I am
    This is who I am
Send the white horses, seems I’ve exhausted
    Those fickle games I play
    Seen my good fortune made
For only you may ever see me true
So only you can tell them this is who I am
    This is who I am
    This is who I am
    This is who I am
    No lie, I’m no less
    This is who I am
    This is who I am
    Sunrise to sunset
    This is who I am

  • Daily Paper to close New York City flagship store amid financial hurdles

Daily Paper, the Amsterdam-based fashion brand renowned for its Afrocentric design influences and storytelling, has announced the closure of its flagship store in downtown New York City. The decision, driven by financial hurdles, marks a bittersweet moment for a brand that has successfully carved a niche in the global streetwear and luxury markets.

    [media-credit name=”Alec Kugler/Daily Paper” width=850 align=”center”][/media-credit]

A bold venture meets economic realities

The store, opened to much fanfare, symbolised the brand’s ambitious foray into the United States market. Positioned in one of the most vibrant retail districts, the location was an opportunity to connect directly with the brand’s American fanbase, which has grown significantly in recent years. However, as the company revealed, low revenue and mounting operational costs have made it unsustainable to keep the location open.

Despite its popularity among fashion enthusiasts and influencers, the store struggled to achieve the financial performance needed to sustain its presence in a competitive retail environment. This mirrors broader challenges faced by many independent and mid-sized brands navigating high rents, fluctuating foot traffic, and post-pandemic consumer behavior shifts.

    The vision behind Daily Paper

Founded in 2012 by Abderrahmane Trabsini, Jefferson Osei, and Hussein Suleiman, Daily Paper quickly gained a reputation for its distinctive aesthetic, which blends African heritage with modern streetwear trends. The brand’s rise has been fueled by its commitment to community and cultural storytelling, resonating with a diverse and loyal customer base worldwide.

The closure of the New York City store is a setback but does not diminish the brand’s significant impact on fashion culture. Over the years, Daily Paper has collaborated with major names like Puma and gained visibility through celebrities who align with its values.

    Moving forward

In a statement, Daily Paper expressed gratitude to the New York community for their support, assuring fans that this is not the end of their journey in the United States market. While the physical store is closing, the brand remains focused on e-commerce and alternative retail strategies to continue serving its customers.

This pivot reflects a broader trend in the fashion industry, where brands increasingly prioritise digital experiences and pop-up events to engage with consumers while minimising overhead costs.

    A reflection of industry trends

Daily Paper’s story underscores the volatility of the retail landscape, particularly for emerging and independent brands. As economic pressures mount and consumer habits evolve, even highly creative and culturally significant brands are finding it challenging to maintain physical stores in prime locations.

The closure of the New York City store is a reminder of the importance of adaptability and resilience in a fast-changing market. For fans and fashion insiders, the hope remains that Daily Paper will continue to thrive in other capacities, staying true to its mission of celebrating identity, culture, and community.

This chapter in the brand’s history, though difficult, is likely to fuel its next phase of innovation and growth, keeping the Daily Paper spirit alive.

    [Couplet 2]
Est-ce quе toi tu reconnais la silhouette?
J’change de forme vite, vite pour ressembler à qui?

    [Verse 1]
Would you pass me a cigarette
I admit I don’t smoke but I can do it for you
It’s wrong, it’s wrong I’ll probably go to hell
I don’t know what to do anymore to be the most stylish tonight

    [Chorus]
I put on a plastic skin
    To avoid breaking everything again
    One time
I put on a plastic skin so I can throw it on the ground a thousand times

    [Verse 2]
    Do you recognize the silhouette?
I change shape quickly, quickly to look like who?
One day blonde one day brunette one day popular
One day will the features of my face be symmetrical
I dream of living on love and picking me
Ah, I live the life of another girl it’s a shame
Ah, I dream of living on love and picking me
Ah, I live the life of another girl it’s a shame

Camille Yembe is a new artist in her mid-twenties born to a Belgian mother and a Congolese father, according to a Sofar Sounds article.

Freeze-framing an aggressively windy day, the new French-speaking singer Camille Yembe seems to place the voices in her head on an undeserving pedestal… making her astonishingly relatable and vulnerable in her debut solo track ‘Plastique’.

“She’s striking!”, I thought. “How could she not see what I see?”

The truth is, sometimes, we can’t see what others see. If you don’t speak French and cannot understand what the song is about, I’ve got you covered. You can read the French and English lyrics in this article.

Yembe has been featured on other recording artists’ songs as a feature (See ‘4 Saisons’ by GAN) officiating her plunge into the music business in 2015. However, the Brussels-born singer-songwriter appears to have one solo release, ‘Plastique’, seemingly taking a chance to become an artist in her own right.

I might smile in your face but I′m plotting
Leveling up now you’re tryna get something
I′m never stagnant I’m always on the move
What one nigga won’t do another one will do
Losing me was a dumb decision
    Red flags
    Sirens are ringing
But I come alive on the weekend
    Clubs going up
    DJ spinning
    Don′t call me
    Can′t keep bugging me
    Don’t call me
I′m on to the next thing
    Hair did
    Nails did
    Bills paid
Independent gotta do my own thing
    Don’t call me
    Pressing red every time babe
    Don′t call me
I’m going off I′m outta reach
I know I’m too hard to forget
I’ll cut you off like I never even knew your name
You′ll never find me in someone else
Got big energy baby it′s not hard to tell
I’m addictive that′s why you can’t let go
I know cus you stay posted on my block
You be lurking on the low
    I′m too young
    Too hot
    Too busy living
Don’t care what you do stay up and go tricking
Once I′m done I don’t give second chances
    Rolling in
    I’m on top
    Got all eyes on me
    Don′t call me
    Can′t keep bugging me
    Don’t call me
I′m on to the next thing
    Hair did
    Nails did
    Bills paid

    Don′t call me
I’m going off I′m outta reach
I know I’m too hard to forget
I’ll cut you off like I never even knew your name
What do I look like crying wasting my time
    Posted with my girls
    Don′t act surprised
    It′s 12:30 baby we outside
    We getting active
    Club jumping
    Unblocking numbers
    Open my line
What do I look like crying wasting my time
