Noname releases ‘Song 33’, an alleged response to J Cole’s ‘Snow on tha Bluff’: Listen
Following J Cole’s latest loaded single ‘Snow on tha Bluff’, which many has speculated was about Chicago’s Noname, she has released ‘Song 33’ as a response (allegedly). The rapper and activist have been in the news lately due to J Cole’s alleged indirect reference to her in his track. His lyrics state
‘She mad at celebrities, low-key I be thinkin’ she talking ’bout me/ Now I ain’t no dummy to think I’m above criticism/So when I see something that’s valid, I listen/But sh*t, it’s something about the queen’s tone that’s bothering me.’
These lyrics have come under fire by Black Twitter and celebrities in general, such as Earl Sweatshirt, Chance the Rapper, and others for Cole’s bad timing and clear inability to ‘read the room’, in terms of his criticism of Black women, who are literally on the front lines of the movement and losing their lives.
In a highly-lauded response, Noname has come back with her own hard-hitting lyrics. In addition to talking about the current state of our country and race relations, she directly responds to Cole stating
‘I guess the ego hurt now/It’s time to go to work, wow, look at him go/He really ’bout to write about me when the world is in smokes?/When it’s people in trees?/When George was beggin’ for his mother saying he couldn’t breathe/You thought to write about me?’
J Cole has since responded by tweeting the link to the song.
