Mick Jagger reportedly nearly died from heroin overdose in 1976
A new Rolling Stones biography claims the Rock icon was revived after collapsing inside Marshall Chess’ New York apartment.

Mick Jagger reportedly survived a near-fatal heroin overdose in 1976, according to a new biography about The Rolling Stones.
In Bob Spitz’s forthcoming book, ‘The Rolling Stones: The Biography’, former Rolling Stones Records president Marshall Chess claims the frightening incident happened after the band’s European tour. According to PEOPLE, Chess said Jagger arrived at his New York City apartment after a night out and appeared restless after allegedly drinking and using cocaine. The pair later shared heroin, and Jagger allegedly collapsed within minutes.
Chess reportedly tried to revive the Rolling Stones frontman before calling emergency services. He also contacted Atlantic Records executive Ahmet Ertegun, who arrived with actress Faye Dunaway. Per the biography, Chess performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation until EMS arrived and placed Jagger on oxygen. The singer was then taken to Lenox Hill Hospital, where Dunaway allegedly helped secure a private room to avoid publicity.
Jagger’s representative did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. Chess said the scare pushed him away from hard drugs and led him to leave his role with the Stones shortly after.
