Hear Jamie Foxx sing through downhearted heartbreak in ‘Somebody’
There are only a handful of singers whose songs I consistently like without hesitation. Jamie Foxx is one of them. Whether he is leaning into silky R&B or flexing his vocal control over a slow-burning ballad, he rarely misses. His ear for melody and emotion has always set him apart from his peers.

Foxx sings from a place of vulnerability. You can hear that he was deeply in love. There is no bitterness in his delivery. Instead, there is acceptance. He sounds like a man who understands that sometimes love is not enough to make things last. Rather than dwell in heartbreak, he shifts his focus toward healing. He wants somebody new. Somebody who will meet him where he is emotionally. Somebody who will not leave him questioning his worth.
The production stays true to classic R&B sensibilities. Warm harmonies and smooth instrumentation allow his voice to carry the story. It feels mature and intentional, not rushed or trendy.
If his former lover is the villain in this story, shame on her. Because on ‘Somebody’, Jamie Foxx sounds like a man who gave his heart fully—and is now brave enough to open it again.
Foxx, we watched the “music video” posted to your official Instagram account. We appreciate the storyline because we came of age in the 1990s. But sir, we deserve a real music video treatment from you.
In any event, we still want you to listen to the track. Foxx describes the moment you know you are in love with somebody. Listen below.
