He became a cultural staple as the stern Vice Principal Gerald Strickland in ‘Back to the Future’, delivering the iconic “slacker” line that cemented his place in pop culture. He also portrayed Commander Tom “Stinger” Jardian in ‘Top Gun’, bringing intensity and edge to the role.
Beyond those classics, Tolkan built a prolific career across film, television and theatre, with credits including ‘Serpico’, ‘Dick Tracy’ and numerous television appearances.
