Australian-Tamil Pop artist Dhee searches for a lost feeling in ‘Vari Vari’: Watch

The Australian-Tamil artist delivers a tender, cinematic love song about memory, heartbreak and finding yourself again.

Dhee’s latest video feels like a soft ache in motion. It is a deep love song about two kids who grew up, fell in love and eventually fell apart. Set against a striking coastal backdrop, the visual follows the Australian-Tamil Pop artist as she sits in the back of a small red vehicle, gently strumming a matching red guitar whilst letting the story unfold around her.

The Santhosh Narayanan-produced record carries a warm, hypnotic quality. As kites fly above the seaside and waves crash nearby, she moves through scenes that feel both intimate and dreamlike. Later, she sits beside her love interest as they head towards the shore, adding quiet tension to a song already heavy with longing.

About the record, Dhee shared, “This song is about someone or something that’s gone and isn’t around anymore, a feeling that is lost. The whole song is the search for yourself that you might’ve lost on the way, and trying to get that feeling back.”

Although she is framed here as a rising global artist, Dhee already has a rich history as one of India’s most distinctive voices. Many know her from ‘Rowdy Baby’ from ‘Maari 2’, the billion-view Tamil music video that remains a massive cultural moment. Her work also includes ‘Naan Nee’ from ‘Madras’, along with contributions to ‘Irudhi Suttru’ and ‘Kaala’.

With its emotional centre, cinematic treatment and cross-cultural pull, Dhee’s new release has the kind of artistic depth that could travel far beyond its first audience.
