  • Watch Shyne explain how he was “set up to be the fall guy” after 1999 nightclub shooting in new documentary trailer

This week amid all the endless accusations against Sean Combs, also widely known as “Diddy”, Moses “Shyne” Barrow appears in Hulu’s documentary trailer to share his side of the story. In the official two-minute thirty-second trailer, the former Bad Boy Records artist and politician recounts the night his life changed forever. He was convicted of first-degree assault, which left three people injured. His former label CEO, Combs was charged with felony. Subsequently, Barrow served ten years in prison and was deported back to his home country, Belize.

Last year, the two appeared onstage together before the Belizean rapper performed his hit records ‘Bonnie & Shyne’ and ‘Bad Boyz’ in London, England at a charity event. Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs introduced him. If you’re asking yourself, “Why would Shyne continue to be seen or align himself with the main he claims set up him?” He has said that it was solely for the benefit of his country.

“He was in the position at that time to give scholarships and maybe to invest. I would not deny attempting to bring the investment to Belize and bring the contributions to education.”

That’s good for Shyne because I can’t say that I know many people who would be so forgiving and selfless. I am glad he is his country’s Music and Goodwill Ambassador for that reason! He is Leader of the Opposition in the Belize House of Representatives.

It will be available for streaming exclusively on Hulu on November 18. Watch the official documentary trailer for ‘The Honorable Shyne’ below.

  • Philadelphia band SNACKTIME releases six-track EP ‘This Is Dance Music’ with ‘SDTS’: Listen

SNACKTIME’s latest track ‘SDTS’ reminds me of the hook on The Notorious BIG’s ‘Party & Bullshit’ a little. Only this time, it’s about smoking, drinking, and talking shit.

[media-credit name=”Photo: Courtey of the publicist; Bob Sweeney” width=1100 align=”center”][/media-credit]

As the lyric video opens, the guitarist and drummer wear Sixers jerseys. Throughout its storytelling, we learn that the septet are booked and busy stating that “We had three damn gigs/all before six”. What does it sound like? In short, it is smooth rapping paired with live instrumentation that your parents and grandparents could enjoy if there’s a clean version without the swear words. Having started in 2020 when the global pandemic put us all on pause, SNACKTIME set out to make music that would inspire people to come together and dance. It is one of the best ways to put everything aside and remember that life is about the memories we make.

It comes from the group’s new six-track extended play, ‘This Is Dance Music’, fusing multiple genres like Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop and R&B. If you’re around, check out the gentlemen at their New Year’s Eve headlining show at Brooklyn Bowl.

SNACKTIME is Yesseh Furaha-Ali (Vocals, Alto Sax, Percussion), Sam Gellerstein (Sousaphone), Austin Marlow (Drums), Larry Monroe, Jr. (Guitar), Eric Sherman (Trumpet/Guitar), Michael Spearman (Trombone, Keys) and Ben Stocker (Tenor Sax).

  • Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival shares festival lineup for its tenth edition

Can you believe it has been ten years?!

    [media-credit name=”Instagram” link=”https://www.instagram.com/p/B3Pa81SAmOi/?hl=en&img_index=1″ width=1440 align=”center”][/media-credit]

Channelling the seventy-year-old spirit, I feel Tyler, the Creator dons the musical star, has chosen to reveal his appealing festival lineup with a crossword puzzle design. Starring fellow eclectic artists (Omar Apollo, Daniel Caesar, Sampha) and bands (The Marías, Faye Webster) and superstar disc jockeys/producers alike (KAYTRANADA, Mustard), it is no wonder the Dodger Stadium Grounds event sold out in minutes!

On the high-profile rapper side, fans get to marvel at the assumingly enchanted performances by Playboi Carti, Mustard & Friends, ScHoolboy Q, and Sexyy Red. Therefore, it would be equal amounts of time to rave, show your gun fingers (it’s the American way), do your dance and yell the cartoony lyrics to ‘SkeeYee’! André 3000 will also be there, but he isn’t performing what you may want to hear if you’re hoping to ‘Walk It Out’ like we’re in 2016. Our living legend has been performing his new solo album ‘New Blue Sun’ on stages, baby; you should respect it. When he’s delivering his work, appreciate it for what it is or head to another stage.

In proper Tyler, the Creator fashion, the creative genius and inept businessman planned to debut fresh unheard material from his forthcoming album ‘Chromakopia’, which he announced yesterday. The album releases on October 28. And for the die-hard underground Hip-Hop heads that could defend the likes of a masked villain in the afterlife if they had to, there will be a special never-before-seen tribute performance in honour of the late MF DOOM — called FM MOOD — presented by the late artist’s estate, Metalface Records and Rhymesayers Entertainment. I could cry!

Additionally, Amazon Music plans to return for the second year in a row as the exclusive live-streaming destination for the Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival. All fans can watch on the Amazon Music channel on Twitch and Prime Video. According to the press release, more details will become available for the livestream nearer the event.

If you plan to be in Los Angeles next month on November 16-17, make it a night with your pals, your bitch, or your throuple.

  • Watch Canadian R&B artist Benita’s technological video for ‘Hope U Find’

Benita performed backing vocals for Daniel Caesar’s Freudian Tour in 2017 and landed a television synch placement on BET’s ‘Diggstown’.

    [media-credit name=”Photos: Courtesy of the publicist” width=1092 align=”center”][/media-credit]

In a music video directed by Keethan Krish, Benita uses science and technology to to connect to two strangers hoping to re-wire her brain and obtain the healthy love she’s dreamed about. Over the dramatic production, she opens the track to sing about running out of mileage and what seems to be depression, leaving her physically and emotionally drained. As a songwriter, the Canadian creator has worked with high-streaming artists like Tone Stith, Chxrry22, Aqyila and more. Watch the well-made visual below from her forthcoming debut EP ‘Sapphire’ set to come out at the top of 2025. If you’re into modern R&B or are a fan of American R&B-rooted star singers Brandy and SZA, there’s a good chance you would enjoy what Benita’s offering.

  • Watch 070 Shake and Lily-Rose Depp trumpet authentic love in ‘Winter Baby/New Jersey Blues’ video

    Art imitates life here.

    [media-credit name=”Photo: Courtesy of the publicist” width=872 align=”center”][/media-credit]

This week, high-streaming Def Jam artist O70 Shake chose her girlfriend to be the centre of attention in the official music video for her latest single, ‘Winter Baby/New Jersey Blues’. The visual opens with Depp selecting a record to hear from an old coin-operated jukebox. As Shake’s lady stands amid a shimmery room divider in a tight pink dress and white lace gloves, the music commences and inspires her to prance across the floor. Pulling inspiration from Wong Kar-Wai’s 1995 neo-noir film ‘Fallen Angels’ and Gaspar Noe’s 2018 psychological horror film ‘Climax’, the visual offering plays into the 1950s jukebox pop feel of ‘Winter Baby’ before transitioning to its more contemporary twin ‘New Jersey Blues’ with the incorporation of distorted 808 bass. With Lily-Rose in the role of a classic femme fatale and Shake as her elusive love interest, they defy the public’s judgment and deliriously pursue each other like rebels to the world, setting the stage for Shake’s forthcoming gothic epic.

The visual shows their chemistry on camera and gently informs the audience who she belongs to (see the last frame, displaying her white lace undergarments). It shouldn’t be your inaugural moment with the Kanye West and Pusha T collaborator, but we wouldn’t be alarmed if it was. In any event, watch Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis’ daughter, Lily-Rose Depp, dance for and seduce her lady in the centre of a bar. Bennett Watanabe directed the music video, and Dave Hamelin produced the track. It is also part of her forthcoming album ‘Petrichor’ set to release on November 15. Check it out.

  • Mick Jenkins dazzled in the City of Gold: Chicagoan rapper-poet celebrates 10th anniversary of ‘The Water[s]’

Fans felt free to rave to the sounds of his deep voice.

    [media-credit name=”Instagram” link=”https://www.instagram.com/p/C-LPHNwv8Y-/?hl=en&img_index=1″ width=900 align=”center”][/media-credit]

Last night, Mick Jenkins, one of Chicago’s radiant musical stars, delivered an energetic hour-long set to his fans at The Nest in the heart and soul of Johannesburg, South Africa. The historical rooftop venue filled up with what seemed to be at least a thousand people as he celebrated the tenth anniversary of his debut mixtape ‘The Water[s]’ with his core fanbase on this side of the world. Amidst the airy ambience, the Alabama-born artist performed all of my favourite tracks from the well-made project, his popular dance track ‘Your Love’, and even the Kaytranada-produced ‘Play Rain’, prominently flipping Missy Elliott’s 1997 timeless breakout single, ‘The Rain’. I was excited. Therefore, I lost it!

What I like about Mick Jenkins outside of his music is his genuine ability to check in with his crowd to see how we were. He was consistent, and I appreciated it. After the show, we headed backstage with his manager before going to his official afterparty on the rooftop of Hallmark House. We listened to classic Hip-Hop/Rap cuts throughout the night until 4 AM and enjoyed chicken strips, adult beverages and hookah courtesy of the artist’s team.

As previously announced, net profits from every pre-order of Jelly Roll’s new album ‘Beautifully Broken’ in his United States online store will benefit organisations helping individuals facing challenges with mental health and addiction as part of the album launch.

I’ve seen Mick Jenkins’ lush debut, his ability to maintain his fame, and a fitting celebration to acknowledge his eminence. As he and I reviewed his live performance, he shared how thankful and satisfied he was with the roaring applause and outstanding energy his fans gave him. At one point, one of his songs stopped playing. The audience asked for an encore. He obliged, and I think the gift to him was an even richer audience response.

If you’re an avid Mick Jenkins listener/Hip-Hop customer, you’ve probably streamed and bought his latest album, ‘The Patience’. If you haven’t, there’s no time like the present. I invite you to dive into ‘The Patience’. Then, explore the entertaining fifteen-track ‘The Water[s]’, the first project that introduced me to his unique style. It’s a classic.

  • Ovrkast and CardoGotWings share minimalist, jazzy EP ‘KASTGOTWINGS’: Listen

Today, Oakland rapper-producer Ovrkast has released a fourteen-minute extended play — ‘KASTGOTWINGS’ — in collaboration with fellow producer CardoGotWings. On the catchy project, the artist shows us that he is against the war in Palestine on ‘PAYMEAGRIP’, suggesting that someone should take one for the team on ‘FREE SUMN’ (where we can hear where the Kanye West comparisons are brewing towards the end of the record), and having his mother’s unconditional love on ‘Bippers Joint’. His mother prays for him with a candle! On records like ‘Cut Up’, a song easily described as a West Coast flow, featuring smooth, piano-fueled beats.
