  • Stream Toronto rapper Lex Leosis’ new track ‘Gemini’ featuring Benita

Inspired by her interactions with different rappers and artists during her time as a slam poet, Toronto-native emcee and spoken word artist Lex Leosis has a decorated career in Rap competitions, giving her a notable spot in the Toronto underground scene. In 2016, the Rap artist joined three other female emcees to form the Hip-Hop group The Sorority, whom were named one of CBC Music’s “10 new Canadian artists who ruled 2018”. Since the group’s disbandment last year, Lex has been developing her own music, infusing her multiple inspirations, identities, and personal history with her own flavor.

Lex’s new single ‘Gemini’ off her upcoming album ‘Mythologies’, displays her sharp lyricism, and relaxed flow. The beat is a mixture of simple piano chords, snare, and baseline that creates a chill head-bopping sound. While the hook is simple and catchy, her deliciously raspy voice recites lyrics that paint a picture of a romantic encounter with another woman. I look forward to hearing more from this talented artist.

  • Timeless and shapeless: New York legend Jadakiss delivers on fifth studio album ‘Ignatius’ (Review)

    Jadakiss is timeless.

    Photos: Courtesy of the label

One thing we can always count on when it comes to Jadakiss is his innate skill to deliver his messages in his music. Unconsciously playing the role of an older brother, or a father-figure to the fatherless, the Yonkers, New York-native often teaches life lessons through his songs. Being able to work with new school artists like Ty Dolla $ign on ‘(NYB) Need Your Best’ and DeJ Loaf (‘Gov’t Cheese’), collaborate with acclaimed R&B singer and People’s 2019 ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ John Legend on ‘I Know’, Jadakiss is timeliness and shapeless.

I like all of the records, but nothing comes close to the production and his delivery on ‘Me’, as he funnily recounts going to “war” with Beanie Sigel and 50 Cent, and wanting to drop a refrigerator from a building on Puff Daddy, now known as Diddy. Stream the thirteen-track album ‘Ignatius’ below now. It is a healthy blend of Hip-Hop/R&B, the blended genre popular during Jadakiss’ prime with The Lox.

On ‘Closure’ featuring Chayse, Jadakiss sends his condolences and acknowledges his friends and peers he’s lost in the entertainment business from Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna to Juice WRLD and Nipsey Hussle. By the end of the album, you may feel you know Jason more through Jadakiss’ incredible transverse songwriting.

  • Meet ‘Suga’, Megan thee Stallion’s new alter-ego in official for ‘B.I.T.C.H.’: Watch

Unleashing a new alter-ego ‘Suga’ alongside Tina Snow and Hot Girl Meg, Megan thee Stallion shares the official video for ‘B.I.T.C.H.’, which is currently #1 on YouTube. Opening with a powerful conversation, Tina Snow coerces and reassures the seemingly coyish Suga that she is “that bitch”. In the next few frames with her hotties by her side, the young artist delivers the lyrics to the song with confidence.

Next week (March 10), Elliot Wilson and Megan thee Stallion will publicly converse for his CRWN series. Fans will be able to tune into a livestream exclusively on TIDAL.

If you haven’t heard the project yet, Megan showcases more singing and different flows. Check it out via this link.

  • Megan thee Stallion releases triumphant project ‘Suga’ featuring Kehlani and Gunna: Review

    Photo: Courtesy of the label

After much public dismay with her record label 1501 Certified Entertainment, Megan thee Stallion has released her project ‘Suga’ last night. With production from The Neptunes (Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo), and Timbaland on a total of three records ‘Stop Playing’ featuring Gunna, ‘Crying in the Car’, and the closeout ‘What I Need’, ‘Suga’ takes the newfound independent star to another plateau. Revealing what it is to be believed as past relationship problems, ‘Suga’ shows that Megan’s vulnerability, but only for a split-second (‘B.I.T.C.H.’). Stream the nine-track LP that divulges into how people are treating her now that she’s making money, and more. My personal favourite is ‘Captain Hook’.

  • Toronto star ShaqIsDope repackages fan-faves for ‘ShaqIsDope 1.5’: Review

Canadian recording artist ShaqIsDope rereleased music last night, to which has received more than 134K streams on Spotify. The pack includes five previously released songs–fan favourites–that weren’t on streaming platforms. Repackaged as ‘ShaqIsDope 1.5’, the one I like to refer to as “the real champagne papi” because of his Latin heritage, follows suit of several musicians who look to impact the marketplace as often as possible.

    Photo: Courtesy of the artist

The opening track, majestically produced, ‘Plenty Days’ tells an autobiographical story about times in Shaq’s youth when he was hungry, and there was no rice to eat. Nothing was in the refrigerator, just the lights. Next, on ‘Losing My Soul, vulnerability dissipates; the confidence surges over the high-energy composition. As the record progresses, you get to hear how his lifestyle altered from his diaries in the previous track–getting deeper and deeper–letting you into his world. From sibling rivalry on ‘This Life’ to the temptation of purchasing a firearm for protection on ‘Regulate’, ShaqIsDope shows he is just like us, a human with familial problems and one that has been in the thick of it.

If you aren’t familiar with the Downtown Toronto artist, you have some catching up to do. The good news is that you can start by listening to the 16-minute 48-second project below.

  • Pop Smoke fans celebrate his life at procession; star laid to rest at Brooklyn funeral

    Canarsie [is] shut down.

That was a text message I received earlier today. Now, it makes sense. Pop Smoke—real name Bashar Barakah Jackson—a native to the area, was laid to rest today. Last month, unfortunately, the rising Brooklyn Drill rapper was murdered in the Hollywood Hills (February 19). To see what it was like during the day in his hometown, watch the clips below.
