On the first day of Spring, British rapper Fredo released the official visual for ‘Scorpion’, filmed by Suave. Based on what we hear, it sounds like a scorpion is the equivalent of an “opp”. Stay safe out there, friends. Fredo might step on your hard-shelled ass. Watch it below.

  • Premiere: TDE’s Lance Skiiiwalker shares Gnarls Barkley ‘Crazy’ remake for your quarantine times: Listen

Especially in times like we’re living in right now, it can be so easy for people to lose their mind. I know because I’m one of those people – Lance Skiiiwalker

Back in 2016, Lance Skiiiwalker released his TDE debut ‘Introverted Intuition’, a thirteen-track album that we think is best for quarantine times. With collective anxiety at an all-time high and the uncertainty of it all, it wouldn’t be far off to say some of us are going crazy, or we’re already there. Living in modern times with a global pandemic feels like a bad dream, mainly for anyone who had the chance to make a life they enjoyed living.

Most of us have heard the song before, but hearing the ‘St Elsewhere’ single now might bring forth another meaning or realization. Specifically, the lyric about thinking anyone is in control of anything except themselves did it for me.

Should the Chicago-native artist’s name look familiar, it is because he’s been working in the industry with several artists, including his labelmates (Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, and SZA) and others.

Last night on Instagram, such a powerful tool when used for business and social issues, GRUNGECAKE received a direct message concerning the remake of the monster track. It is a, perhaps, esoteric take on the Gnarls Barkley 2007 GRAMMY Award-winning record ‘Crazy’ (Record for the Year), which happens to be one of my all-time favourite songs. Today, right now, you can stream Lance Skiiiwalker’s ‘Crazy’ exclusively through GRUNGECAKE via the IGTV player below. It’s a first of its kind for us, and we hope it isn’t the last.

  • Brooklyn’s indie sweetheart LATASHÁ reaches higher with visual for ‘WHO I AM’ synched on Netflix’s ‘Self Made’: Watch

    Photo: Courtesy of the publicist

Always finding ways to elevate and recreate herself into the higher being that we believe she is, LATASHÁ shares ‘WHO I AM’, a winsome production that shows in the light of royalty and someone to take seriously, aside from her sans-major record label push. Letting you know who she is, and what she does, currently, the New York City-native has relocated to the West Coast to calibrate her worth. Back in 2018, we worked with LATASHÁ for a concert series we partnered on with Dailymotion called: Sunset Sessions. We hope with her alignment with Netflix’s new series ‘Self Made’ starring Octavia Spencer, she’s able to breakthrough in the way she deserves. LATASHÁ has been at it for a long time, and we’ve been around to witness her reincarnations. The Brooklyn indie artist is getting closer with the fellow-Liberian Melody Asherman as a designer she works with and Lytehaus Media as her production team.

The artist plans to release two projects this year ‘INSTAR’ due May 2020 and ‘Chrysalis’, which is a collaboration with Sydney, Australia trio PNAU toward the end of 2020, and is working on her docu-series: TRULYTE.

  • Amsterdam-based duo Secret Rendezvous drops ‘Back in the Day’ (HIGH HØØPS Flip)’: Listen

Dutch band Secret Rendezvous releases their latest single ‘Back in the Day’ (HIGH HØØPS Flip). The track is a mid-tempo R&B groove that transports you right back to the 90s. The lyrics speak of simpler times in love, with “vintage clothes” and “headphones on” and name-drops artists like Tupac and Brandy. The song discusses reconnecting with a lost love and having things be the way they were ‘back in the day’. The song is blissfully nostalgic and groovy. It is virtually impossible to not feel good listening to this track.

  • Hear Oslo’s Simen Mitlid’s lead single ‘Weeks’ featuring Tuvaband from his forthcoming album: Birds

Simen Mitlid, a singer-songwriter from Norway, recently released ‘Weeks’ featuring Tuvaband, which is the first single from his forthcoming album: Birds. Based on shared information, ‘Weeks’ is a ballad about God and the act of not believing in anything. Ironically, there’s a church in the building where his Oslo studio—Grønland—is. He sampled one of the preachers at the song’s start. The preacher’s words aren’t clear to me, and I’m not sure I would have realised it if I didn’t read about it, but it’s a sweet addition to the fabric of the recording.

Should you like the song as much as I do, you should know there’s a B-side track or sequel to ‘Weeks’ called ‘Anything’ that features Benedikt, and Indie Folk group.

If I get the chance to see Simen Mitlid live in New York City in the future, it would be a treat. Interested gentlemen, if you’re reading this, you know what to do. Listen to one of my favourite singers latest tracks below.

  • Cashtronaut shares new track inspired by “battles on distant planets”: Hear ‘Systems Go!’

Cashtronaut, a genre-bending producer, released a new record called, ‘Systems Go!’ Mech fighting video games and battles on distant planets are the inspirations behind the song. The record does not fall far from the other songs created in this genre, but we haven’t supported a portmanteau yet. Without further rambling, here’s the today-years-old track by Cashtronaut. Check it out.
