Kicking it off with a repetitive “no one’s coming for you”, Detroit’s Miz Korona delivers the best COVID-19-inspired song I’ve heard since the beginning of the month. Using public information about the virus to weave her lyrics together, Miz Korona displays master songwriting skills, which has been unmatched to date. Please, if your “coronavirus record” isn’t as good as this one, keep it. Yes, we have time, but we don’t have time for that.

Premiere: Hear UFO Fev’s new potent record ‘Nightclubs’ featuring Jamaica’s top female deejay Spice
The Spanish kid from the East got Grace (Spice’s first name) to bless the Grace Jones original. Fun fact: Both Grace’s were born in Saint Catherine Parish, Jamaica.
UFO FEV, one of the first New York City-native artists to leap from grinding through email pitches to mainstages all over the globe, returns with a potent feature from one of Jamaica’s baddest deejays, Spice. The flawlessly produced ‘Nightclubs’, inspired by Grace Jones’ classic ‘Nightclubbin’ sees the Harlem emcee with the high-grade descriptive lyrics, which plants its listener in the seat or room of his mind. If you weren’t born in the 70s, but you were rocking with Hip-Hop music when Puffy dated J Lo, you know the flip of this beat for Shyne’s debut album was a problem.
The year was 2000: the beginning of a new millennium and a new decade. The Barrington Levy-sampled single was a breath of fresh air. Music fans treated him like he was the second coming of Biggie because of his big baritone voice. ‘Nightclubs’ is a sweet ode to those times, and the classic ‘Nightclubbin’ by Grace Jones from her fifth studio album. Play this one loud, baby.

American rapper TITUS looks to shift viewers perspectives with the release of ‘PICK US UP’: visual
With the hope of changing the perspective of his listener for the better, TITUS releases the visual for ‘PICK US UP’. The rapper uses his voice to shed light on some of the common issues that most people face, more specifically, the problems within. The song echoes the theme of finding yourself and putting love into the world while guiding people back into the reality of life, not driven by emotions and ego. The visual is set in front of a house, where he is simply rapping with his friend present, followed by him taking a trip to the gas station, where the visual begins to take a dramatic turn, leaving viewers on edge with its cliffhanger finish. Overall, the message of the music and the story the visual displays is important and empowering for those willing to listen.

GRUNGECAKE team stops by Warner Music Group with GRAMMY U mentee
Last month, the GRUNGECAKE team stopped by Asylum Records at Warner Music Group with Recording Academy’s GRAMMY U mentee Aryana. As we entered the office, we walked through the room as some notable members of their team were meeting. We entered the room where Aryana would conduct her interview with Michael, who handles the public relations for Asylum Records. The room filled with plaques from some of Hip-Hop’s notable acts such as Jay-Z, 2 Chainz, and DJ Drama, added to a more exciting feel as we prepared for the interview. The interview began.
Aryana began the interview, with questions surrounding the process, that Asylum follows when looking for artists, and their artist development work. Also, GRUNGECAKE intern Brooke inquired about the importance of talent through songwriting, production, and how that influences their choices in picking artist. Michael, generally shared, the ins and outs of running a record label.
