  • Florida rapper Jackboy shares official video for ‘Pressure’: Watch

Jackboy, who is a frequent collaborator to Kodak Black, released the official video for ‘Pressure’ last week. At the beginning of the video, he’s on a call with Kodak Black, where he gets words of encouragement to strive to be better. For the most part, that’s what the song is about: Being under pressure. And hopefully, rising above negativity. Check out the new release below.

  • Ireland-based artist Bazigos shares visual for ‘Prison Break’: Watch

We here at GRUNGECAKE are pretty honored to not only highlight musicians here in the States, but we always love to have our ears to the international sounds as well. For those who don’t know, there’s a growing Hip-Hop scene in Dublin, Ireland that dates back to the 1980s and as mentioned, the scene is getting bigger. With his latest release from his ‘Purple Path’ project, Bazigos shares some visuals for his track ‘Prison Break’. With his animated and off-set delivery, Bazigos tells a story about being a prisoner in his own mind and using his creativity to break free. Heavily inspired by the sounds of Trip-Hop and Rock, Bazigos displays a nice balance of energy and experimental sounds in this track. Be sure to check out his ‘The Purple Path’ project.

  • Atlanta’s Lil Keed releases video for single ‘No Dealings’: Watch

Atlanta rapper and Young Thug signee Lil Keed has released his visuals for fire track ‘No Dealings’. The song is fire, and similar to Young Thug, we hear Lil Keed reach an astronomically high pitch in the sing-song style that we’ve grown accustomed to from the artists. He effortlessly walks on the YoungBoyBrown beat and lets us know that he intends to take care of the people closest to him. The images in the video are performances mixed with some trippy visuals of Keed in a staircase. Lil Keed and his brother, Lil Gotit are both on their way to blowing up. We can’t wait to see it.

  • Norway producer Gundelach’s visual for ‘Cynical Mind’ imitates current human life: Watch

Gundelach, one of my Norway’s buzzing musical artists, released a powerful visual for a record called ‘Cynical Mind’ about a month ago. It is unclear how long ago the production for the video happened, but there are a lot of us having these types of dreams; wishing we were in public places with a lover. It is remarkable when art imitates life in this way, perhaps unknowingly. If you haven’t been keeping up with the coronavirus news, here’s one for you. Gundelach’s conception for his visual may not be far-fetched for everyone in these times because Jacksonville, Florida just reopened its beaches yesterday. As the reports say, hundreds of people flocked to the local beaches for “essential activities” in the middle of a worldwide pandemic. There are “some restrictions”.

Watch the visual for the song featuring AURORA below. If you’re open and grown enough to handle same-sex intimacy, you’re going to enjoy it as much as I do.

  • Ghanaian singer MOH experiences heartbreak in ‘Belinda’ debut featuring Mr Eazi: Watch

‘Belinda’ must be the woman of his dreams, because MOH can’t keep it together when she’s around. As his wheels spin within moments of seeing her, he falls deeper and deeper in love with her—demonstrating that his heart is only for her until he gets a reality check. It is a smooth comedic debut record for MOH featuring the acclaimed Mr Eazi produced by Lexyz. Nothing is funnier than the dance moves he does, as she fans herself. Watch the animated visual below. I think, in this case, it was the best way to show what he felt in this scenario.

  • Brooklyn rapper HDBeenDope drops video for fiery single ’20k’: Watch

With an opening line that pretty much everybody can relate to:

Last month, I made $20,000. How the f*ck am I broke?

HDBeenDope comes out swinging on this bar-heavy track. This song is definitely too short for my liking. I was hooked from his first bar, and he didn’t let up. His flow was consistent, the style wasn’t cookie-cutter; it was just all together well done. The video is dark, meshing perfectly with the lyrics. HDBeenDope definitely left me craving more from him.

  • Afrobeats artist Oxlade drops culture-filled video for single ‘Away’: Watch

In times like these, it’s nice to have some upbeat, fun music that will keep our spirits up. Oxlade provides us with just that with his fun single ‘Away’. The video is light and fun, as is the song. This track is definitely meant for a Summer party, provided we’ve been freed by then. The video contains beautiful images of the Motherland, with beautiful people and some authentic African moves. This song is sure to be featured in all the parties—when we can finally party!

  • Playboi Carti makes highly-anticipated return with single and video: Watch ‘@ MEH’

Ahead of Playboi Carti’s upcoming album release titled ‘Whole Lotta Red’, the Atlanta rapper has dropped his latest single and video ‘@ MEH’, and is currently #1 trending on YouTube. The video is simple and artistic, something that those who appreciate minimalism will enjoy. The video features Carti in front of a blue-green backdrop, rapping his verses on the floor. Ever so often, we get a treat: a gorgeous model twerking.

    [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMDOSLEVdBw&h=315]

The song itself, however, is not for the Hip-Hop old heads who hate the stylistic choices of today’s Rap artists. This is textbook mumble rap–catchy, fun, but the lyrics are somewhat unintelligible. That doesn’t mean that this isn’t a hit though, we know it is. The anticipation for a Carti return is too high and he’s just too good. Additionally, he and Lil Uzi Vert have piqued our interests, either preparing for collaboration or hinting at a feud. The two have been trading Instagram posts and cryptic tweets, leading Hip-Hop conspiracy theorists to believe that something may be up between the two. Only time will tell.

  • Watch DaBaby’s latest video ‘Jump’ featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again

DaBaby is not letting up, even in quarantine. He and YoungBoy Never Broke Again have teamed up single ‘Jump’ and the visuals do not disappoint. Similar to many of his videos, and reminiscent of some old-school Busta Rhymes videos, DaBaby continues to incorporate a humorous aspect into the visuals. The video opens up with a fictional news broadcaster who is then wiped with Windex by DaBaby, and doused with water. Followed up by this is an entertaining, colorful video featuring YoungBoy and DaBaby rapping in a house that’s being thoroughly cleaned around them. DaBaby is consistent and seems to be one of very few rappers that actually value an entertaining music video.

  • Lil Tecca releases new song with Internet Money: Listen to ‘Out of Love’

Lil Tecca, the seventeen-year-old rapper behind the hit ‘Ransom’, releases the first track ‘Out of Love’ from his upcoming project with producer Internet Money. ‘Out of Love’ is a new Tecca for returning listeners, presenting himself to be a more mature and seasoned artist. When Tecca first hit the scene with Internet Money-produced song ‘Ransom’, he won over fans with his youthfulness and teenage persona. While being interviewed by Rico Nasty for Interview Magazine, Rico asked him “Did you go to rap shows when you were younger?” and he replied “Nah. My first concert was my own.”

Despite being seventeen-years-old and still relatively new to the scene, he is establishing that he will not be just a trend in the world of music. The new song proves that not only can Lil Tecca run with the big dogs, but he is becoming one of the big dogs himself. With ‘Out of Love’, Tecca plants his feet down, letting the world know he is here to stay and that we should be excited about the upcoming project ‘Do They Really Love You’ set to release in May!
