  • Dancehall artist Jafrass is the genre’s ‘One Word Boss’: Watch the official visual

    ‘One Word’ is the slang on the lips of many avid Dancehall listeners since the world slow down following the COVID-19 virus.

    The term ‘One Word’ was created and made further popular by Dancehall recording artist Jafrass, hailing from the Ainsley ‘NotNice’ Morris-led Notnice Records music label. The hard-hitting Dancehall track portrays a traditional urban Jamaican gangster portfolio, which consists of making money, courting beautiful women, tons of arms and ammunition, not to mention extravagant marijuana usage and domination of your hometown.

    Jafrass was accompanied by Wikid Media in his hometown of the western section of the island, where hundreds flocked all decked out in ‘One Word’ apparel.

    Wa me name? One Word Boss! Inna Fendi a weh me buy gal draws. Me nuh take check me gun dem fast, raps Jafrass on the hook.

    The official visuals for ‘One Word’ was uploaded to his official VEVO channel on April 28, 2020, and has since been a trending success with over 400,000 views and is the #9 trending video throughout the entire island within the past week on YouTube.

    [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szieJyd8A8M&h=315]

    This single also comes after an alleged beef between Jafrass, Notnice, and international recording artist Popcaan, who were all formerly apart of the same musical camp.

    Dem a nuh action killer. Internet badman, caption killer dem… Diss di link and think dem escape, buss one inna dem face, Jafrass deejays in ‘Well Precise’.

    Another single, which was recently released and have many Dancehall insiders labelling it as a Popcaan diss record.

    However, the saga is still majorly speculations and all involved have yet to release any concrete statements many are left wondering is this the end of the ‘Unruly’ camp or will both parties emerge as their own separate Dancehall strongholds.

  • Aussie singer-songwriter SAYGRACE is worth the search: Watch the visual for ‘Violent Crimes’

    I came into my listening session, not knowing what to expect, and then, I got a little nervous when the thumbnail loaded. I had no idea what direction this performance or video was going with a song titled ‘Violent Crimes’. At first glance, I was pretty excited that the video was a live performance. Let me admit that SAYGRACE is an artist I am just getting acquainted with. What drew me in was when I saw in that thumbnail was that beautiful guitar. After my initial listen, I decided to let the next video play on YouTube, and I was not upset.

    I am intrigued by this girl’s vibe. To be very honest, her music feels nostalgic, and her collaborations with other young girls remind you of the early 2000s. That decade, when the girls were actually singing. SAYGRACE, and a few of her associated features, take you back to the styles of Mandy Moore, Jojo, Joss Stone, and Lily Allen. During her live performance, SAYGRACE’s cover of Kanye West’s song from his album titled ‘Ye’, which debuted in 2018, was actually good. When I checked her other videos, I really enjoy the youthfulness of her videos.

    [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l86avc3lV0s&h=315]

    She has undergone a rebrand from Grace to SAYGRACE. I am interested in seeing what Miss SAYGRACE does in the future. She is apparently the same Grace who covers ‘You Don’t Own Me’, initially sung by Lesley Gore, and it features G-Eazy.

    Last week, I received the YouTube link to SAYGRACE’s music video for ‘Violent Crimes’. I thought it was just another song title—meant to be an attention-grabber. I was utterly taken aback.

  • Philadelphia singer D Kirk KV’s debut album lacks vivacity and brimming charm needed to compete with today’s music: Review

    As someone who has had the honour to listen to and support several artists, it is always a privilege to give feedback to anyone who wants it. So, when artists at all stages of their careers reach out, I must review them as any industry personnel would. Otherwise, it may cost them in the long run. When we received an inquiry from Philadelphia’s D Kirk KV on Instagram, I couldn’t wait to hear what he had. At first, I wanted to assign the review article, to one of my contributor’s, but I didn’t feel they were seasoned enough to convey our collective thoughts, professionally. Instead, I decided to take it on.

    Three months ago, D Kirk KV released an eighteen-track album called ‘Oceans’, which features production from various producers including DJ Mustard (‘Special’ featuring RNB Base) and CashMoneyAp (‘She’s A Vibe’ featuring Bptheofficial). The most notable songs are ‘Birthday’, which boasts the best hook on the project but doesn’t credit the featured artist, and ‘ithinkiminlove’ featuring Hrtbrkfever because of how it incorporates Wayne Wonder’s 2003 popular Reggae song ‘No Letting Go’.

    For me, D Kirk KV’s production choices are great, but surprisingly he doesn’t meet the bar of most of his musical collaborators. Often, throughout the project, his monotonous crooning style seems to decrease the energy level of the alliance. I’d like to hear how he progresses over time. As a songwriter, his concepts have connectivity, but his overall vocal delivery must improve to attract the audience he wants. As an audience, we’re left wondering what makes the Philadelphia artist standout from his vicious competitors.

    Listen to the project below. To us, it feels more like a mixtape created by an artist trying to find their way than a fair introduction full-length LP.

  • YG announces fifth-studio album ‘Laugh Now Kry Later!’, releases visual for title-track: Watch

    Friday, the boisterous YG released the title track from his forthcoming album ‘Laugh Now Kry Later!’. On production different from his usual sound, he rides around in the most beautiful Lamborghini I’ve seen. On the track, he talks about being a heartbreaker, gives tribute to his late friend and fellow LA legend Nipsey Hussle, and cuddles with his two daughters. Check out the visual below to see the driver doing doughnuts. And if that’s YG singing on the hook, he did a damned good job.
