Night Lights’ new EP is right for your Summer playlists.

With origins all over the world (Japan, Norway, Mexico and the United States), Night Lights have a sophisticated appeal to their big sound often compared to Coldplay and Keane. The band is composed of Dag Hanken (a drummer from Norway), Yusuke Sato (a guitarist from Japan), Mauricio Jimenez (a singer-guitarist from Mexico) and Jeff Kinsey (an American bass player).

Starting off the EP with the title track “Expectations,” the Indie Rock outfit sets the tone for a high-energy, feel-good, danceable soundtrack. From meeting each other four years ago at Berklee College of Music to being praised by LA Weekly, one could guess that the music speaks for itself, but they face day-to-day challenges like the rest of us.

They’ve been in uncomfortable situations — rehearsing two nights a week in a mini studio space in North Hollywood to perfect their performance, limited and restricted by a student visa, hoping that your new roommate from Craigslist doesn’t scam you. They’re doing what they can to make their dreams come true — filing for artist visas so that the three international members can stay in the United States to earn money from music. They work hard; they are focused, and their eyes are on the prize.

Driven by human love — like most Pop artists — Night Lights made a body of music that you will keep with you in your heart, as you grow old. Do you remember the songs that were on the radio when you had your first kiss? Do you remember which songs you listened to when you took your first vacation with your lover? Do you remember what it was like to be in deep love in the summertime? This EP stimulates those types of feelings. Here’s to making new memories with someone you love this summer.

Today, Night Lights share their brand new EP titled, “Expectations” on GrungeCake exclusively. Stream the 6-track extended play below, and if you like what you hear, add it to your summertime playlists.
