This month, Laik, an artist of Sierra Leoneans roots based in the DMV area of the United States, released a new smooth Afro jam titled, ‘Ahje’, potentially attracting more attention for the artist. In an article published by the Breakdown, he explained that, “when it came to the standard of music being released by Sierra Leone artists, [he] knew there was a quality gap compared to other African music coming out at the time.”
In the composition, Laik sings about what makes him and his loved ones outstanding. As the Krio-speaking talent continues to sing more of the lyrics, he lets us know he’s often amoungst the fashionably late, earning cash and purposely not making any new friends—like Drake. Based on his presentation, it sounds like Laik is living a first-class life/marvy, is comfortable, and does not see the reason for change.
Listen to the short track below. It is out now exclusively through Badman Records.
We interviewed him on Instagram Live during the global pandemic. It is a pleasure to come across Laik again.
