  • XG wins ‘Best Visual Effects’ and ‘Performance of the Year’ at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan

    Last week (March 19), South Korea-based Japanese superstar group XG won two awards at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan (MTV VMAJ). In addition to winning the Best Visual Effects and Performance of the Year awards, they delivered an impressive live performance. The septet (seven-member group) shared their excitement about winning two awards that night by saying, “When it comes to performing, we’ve always valued teamwork and unity above all else, so this means a lot to us!” They also expressed their joy at the first award in an XG-style, adding, “We believe that aliens reside in every part of us, so we’re going to give our all in this performance!”

    XGALX CEO & Executive Producer Jakops (Simon) received the newly established Best Producer award. The members took a moment on stage to celebrate his achievement, saying, “Congratulations to our producer, Jakops (Simon), on winning Best Producer! We’re always so grateful to have you!” Their heartfelt message was met with loud applause from the audience.

    During their MTV VMAJ live performance, the girls performed ‘Woke Up’, their first all-Rap song, which has held the #1 spot on the Billboard Global Japan Songs Excluding Japan chart for nine consecutive weeks. The music video also went viral, ranking on YouTube’s trending charts in nineteen territories, including #1 in the United States. They also performed ‘Is This Love’, which was released as a single on March 7. The track has charted on Spotify’s Viral Chart in thirteen countries, including the United States, Japan, Canada, Singapore, and Thailand. It was also selected as the track for Shiseido’s ANESSA global campaign.

    Upcoming stops include additional China shows in March (Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, and Chengdu) and Latin America in April (São Paulo and Mexico City), followed by the recently announced tour finale at Tokyo Dome. Lastly, in April, XG will make history as the only Japanese act to perform at Coachella 2025, one of the largest music festivals in the United States.


  • XG, South Korea-based Japanese popstars, to release ‘Million Pieces’ in May

    According to the release, the record will come out on the same day as the group’s world tour finale at the grand Tokyo Dome. Hip-Hop/R&B-inspired girl group XG held their Osaka concert on March 15/16 as part of their world tour, ‘XG 1st World Tour ‘The first Howl’, at Osaka-Jo Hall.

    During the March 15 show, Maya and Cocona performed ‘Show You Can’, a track featured on the Korean compilation album ‘Street Woman Fighter 2 (SWF2) Crew Songs’ (released in 2023). Osaka fans were thrilled as the song was performed for the first time on the world tour.

    The release of ‘Million Pieces’ will come in both CD box and digital formats. The creation reflects XG’s global journey, capturing precious moments with their fans throughout their world tour. Inspired by the love experienced in the cities they visited, crossing cultures and borders, the song describes a special journey shared between XG and their fans, transcending distance and nationality. With the Tokyo Dome show approaching, the excitement grows for the thrilling performances and the message of love XG will share.

    XG’s first world tour, ‘XG 1st World Tour ‘The first Howl’, began last May with performances in Japan. The tour will continue with additional shows in March in China (Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu) and performances in April in Latin America (São Paulo and Mexico City), closing with a grand finale at the giant Tokyo Dome on May 14, back in Japan. By the end, the tour will have had forty-seven shows in thirty-five cities worldwide.


  • XG, South Korea-based Japanese popstars, announces exclusive partnership with McDonald’s

    Global pop sensation XG has announced an exclusive partnership with McDonald’s Japan, marking their debut in television advertising. The collaboration features a space-themed commercial that premiered on Japanese television on February 10, 2025. In the ad, the seven-member group—Jurin, Chisa, Hinata, Harvey, Juria, Maya, and Cocona—step into a futuristic “McDonald’s Galaxy”, donning unique, alien-inspired outfits as they join fans, known as Alphaz, for a vibrant #FandomFeast.

    The campaign extends beyond traditional media with the release of the web movie ‘Fandom Feast (McDonald’s Live Party)’ and a series of three new television spots. These initiatives invite fans to participate in a live McDonald’s party, sharing the excitement alongside their favourite artists. On February 19, XG will host the “#FandomFeast: McFries Feast” live event on McDonald’s official TikTok and YouTube channels, where they will share McDonald’s French Fries with viewers.

    To celebrate the collaboration, a special ‘McDonald’s Galaxy Exhibition’ will be held at Hakkakukan in Harajuku from February 19 to 23. Fans will have the opportunity to view the outfits worn by XG in the commercial and access behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot. The commercial also features a remixed version of XG’s track ‘In the Rain (McDonald’s Remixx)’, a fresh take on the song from their second mini-album ‘Awe’ that originally made waves on the Billboard 200.

    This partnership comes as XG continues their XG 1st World Tour (The First Howl), with upcoming performances in Tokyo, Fukuoka, and Osaka. In February, they will head to Australia, followed by China in March, and plans to expand into South America later this year. Notably, XG is set to become the only Japanese artist to perform at Coachella 2025, further cementing their global appeal.

    Fans have expressed excitement over the collaboration, noting that it embodies the energetic vibes of XG’s previous hits like ‘Shooting Star’ and ‘Left Right’.   • South Korea-based superstars XG to make Coachella debut as only Japanese act on lineup

    The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2025, one of the biggest music events in the United States, has announced its highly-anticipated lineup for next year. XG will perform for the first time at the acclaimed event. The festival will take place over two weekends: April 11-13 and April 18-20, in the Coachella Valley desert in Indio, California. XG will perform on April 13 and 20, as the only Japanese artist on the lineup.

    This year’s headliners include Travis Scott, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone, Missy Elliott, Charli XCX, and Megan thee Stallion. XG is listed on the second tier of the lineup—just below the headliners—a first for Japanese female artists, highlighting the buzz around their appearance.

    XG comprised of seven members—Jurin, Chisa, Hinata, Harvey, Juria, Maya, and Cocona—debuted in March 2022 with their single Tippy Toes. Since then, they’ve made waves globally, becoming the first Japanese artists to top the Billboard Hot Trending Songs Powered by Twitter chart and appearing on the cover of Billboard magazine as the first Japanese girl group to do so. They’ve also performed at major festivals like Head In The Clouds.

    In 2024, XG launched their first world tour, ‘XG 1st Wol’d Tour: The First Howl, performing in roughly thirty cities worldwide. The tour has drawn 120,000 fans across Asia and 50,000 in North America. Currently, they’re performing in six European cities, including Manchester, London, Berlin, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam.

    On November 8, XG released their second mini-album, ‘AWE’, which debuted at #3 on both the Oricon Weekly Album Ranking and Billboard Japan’s Hot Albums chart. Globally, it reached #12 on the Apple Music Worldwide Album Chart and charted in 48 countries and regions on Apple Music’s Top 200 Albums. The lead track, ‘Howling’, trended on YouTube in 10 countries and landed at #8 on the US Billboard Rap Digital Song Sales chart, cementing their reputation as a rising global phenomenon.
