  • Pop Smoke’s family announces non-profit foundation ‘Shoot for the Stars’

Today, the family of Bashar “Pop Smoke” Jackson is announcing Shoot for the Stars, a (501(c)(3)) foundation established by Pop Smoke prior to his passing and led by his mother. “The foundation is meant to inspire inner-city youth to do just what the name states, ‘shoot for the stars’”, Ms Jackson says, “and help urban youth everywhere turn their pain into champagne by making their dreams a reality.”

As [Bashar] travelled around the city, he realized that the technology he had access to during his school years was not the norm for urban schools, says Ms Jackson. It was great fun brainstorming and planning [Shoot for the Stars] with him. I am looking forward to working with the team he put together before he was so tragically taken from us.

With everything happening in the world today, I know Bashar would feel the urgency of need, now more than ever before, Head of Victor Victor Worldwide, Steven Victor says. He strived to inspire youth and would have loved to see people playing his music and dancing in the streets while they marched in the fight for equality and justice. He made music, not only for the kids in his neighborhood but around the world, to inspire them to dream big regardless of their situation. The hope he carried for the next generation will live on through Shoot for the Stars. It was something that was very important to him and we’re honored to continue his legacy. This is only the beginning.

In summary, Ms Jackson shares, “We make this announcement and look forward to Pop’s debut album via Victor Victor.”

  • Listen to Pop Smoke and Rowdy Rebel on ‘Make It Rain’ from the late Brooklyn Drill king’s forthcoming album

Music is the tool of revolution. We have been watching, along with the rest of the world, as long overdue change starts to take root. We have seen Pop’s music become the soundtrack of the moment, unifying the masses. Given recent events, we have decided to delay the release of his album out of respect for the movement. — Steve Victor, Head of Victor Victor Worldwide

Today, the late Pop Smoke and fellow Brooklynite Rowdy Rebel are on a new release called ‘Make It Rain’, a single from Pop Smoke’s forthcoming posthumously album. After Pop Smoke finishes his verse, the GS9 rapper says his verse through a call from prison. The album is executive produced by 50 Cent. Reportedly, due to the current events in the world, it has been delayed to release on July 3. Check out the track below.

    Fivio Foreign – Wetty (Personal)

Brooklyn’s it-boy Fivio Foreign picks up where he left off with his risky lifestyle in his new cinematic visual for ‘Wetty’. As the love story plays out, he and his girl face a near-death situation, and she doesn’t scurry. To my liking, at the end of the video, he plays out the first verse of the song. It’s what made me like the song the most because who doesn’t like when art imitates life? By the looks of it, Brooklyn Drill is here to stay, and Foreign will forever be on the frontline. Check out the visual now.

Rich the Kid – Easy (Personal)

On a Brooklyn Drill beat, Queens-native rapper Rich the Kid brags about his lady wearing Chanel only; no Yeezy’s. Posted up at a laundromat and deli for the linkup, he and some friends hang out, dance to the uptempo beat, and eat pizza. At the end of the video, he pays homage to the late Pop Smoke. Watch the official visual for one of the vivacious singles from Rich the Kid’s new album, ‘Boss Man’ now.

Pop Smoke – Shake the Room featuring Quavo (Personal)

The moment of silence at the end is beautiful. Try not to cry as you watch. Currently trending at #13 on YouTube, the posthumous visual for ‘Shake the Room’ features Pop Smoke and Quavo spending time together in Paris, France. As an avid listener and supporter of the Brooklyn Drill movement, not only is this one of my favourite songs on ‘Meet the Woo 2’, it is so good to see them having fun. Pop Smoke was really on his way. I predict this song is going to chart. Watch the video to see our fallen hometown hero in one of his last moments. And thank you to Virgil Abloh and his team for getting this done.

Lil Skies – Havin My Way featuring Lil Durk (Personal) (Bonus)

As both artists offer tight verses on the danceable track, the video for ‘Havin My Way’ opens up with the two—Lil Skies and Lil Durk—tied to the ropes like puppets. Next, they’re in the crowd amid zombie-like people. It isn’t clear how they got there, or why, but it makes for a damned good visual. In particular, Lil Durk’s verse starts with referencing Lil Baby and Gunna’s famous hook on the chart-topping record ‘Drip Too Hard’.

  • Pop Smoke fans celebrate his life at procession; star laid to rest at Brooklyn funeral

    Canarsie [is] shut down.

That was a text message I received earlier today. Now, it makes sense. Pop Smoke—real name Bashar Barakah Jackson—a native to the area, was laid to rest today. Last month, unfortunately, the rising Brooklyn Drill rapper was murdered in the Hollywood Hills (February 19). To see what it was like during the day in his hometown, watch the clips below.
