Today, Alternative R&B artist Tiara Imani released the official visualiser for her new track, ‘Hella Text’. For the direction of the catchy song about being hounded by her former boyfriend, the crooning newbie performs in an office setting. Tiara Imani evoked some maniacal behaviour from a man she used to date; we seem to have that in common, unfortunately! For that reason alone, I had to inquire further for therapeutic reasons, lol. So, I did.

1) So all the ladies, gworls and gentlewomen would want to know what your ex did to make you stop answering your calls? What was it that broke the camel’s back?

What didn’t my ex do might be the shorter answer lol, but I feel like with this particular ex, it was a slow mental checkout until I had a concrete reason to trust what I already felt in my gut. I think what really did it was catching him in a very small but very blatant lie that flipped a switch in my brain like, “Wow, you will really lie about things you could just say were mistaken about but instead you just chose a manipulative route”? Being with people whose every word you have to decipher whether or not it’s true—will set you crazy—so he had to go.

2) We heard you came up with the treatment for the video. Take us through what you were thinking. How difficult was it to find the computer for the shoot?

I didddddd. I love love LOVE being hands-on with all things visuals when it comes to music, for myself and other artists. I have collected images across every social media or creative platform throughout the years and just continue to do so as I find more images that inspire and speak to me so that when I go back through them ideas just automatically start flowing. It’s weird because I feel like I think in pictures and with this visual I found a high fashion office ad that also had some quirkiness to it and I immediately knew I wanted to run with that. I’d compare some of the quirkiness to one of my favorite movies, ‘Princess Diaries’, with a few other references intertwined.

3) Your casting is fantastic! Do you know any of the people, or were they all from an agency?

Thank you so much! I did not know anyone that was casted before the shoot, except for my producer. He has a brief cameo in this video. I put up a casting, explaining my vision and what I was looking for and then went through my favorite submissions with my director. They were all on top of their A-game for our shoot, so I feel like I made the right choices.

4) What can your listeners/fans expect from your EP ‘Love Letters From A Water Sign’?

I think listeners can expect some similarities from my first project as I get deeper into crafting the Tiara Imani sound but also me touching a few different genres that I’ve never touched before. That’s the most exciting part to me! You get my soft melodic approach but then you’ll also hear influences of Rap/Hip-Hop, Drill, Rock and a few others. We can almost call this project a sampler! I feel like it offers that much variety.

5) And last but not least, what sign are you?

BIG WATER ENERGY BABYYYYYY! I’m a Cancer sun, Cancer moon, and Scorpio rising so it’s real intuitive, emotional, and fun over here, lol.
