“What is the lesson? What is the point?”

“Being alive hurts too much.”

When I heard those words at the beginning of the video for “Praying,” I felt like I was going to break in half. My goodness, Kesha. Finding peace is a journey; By the looks of it, you’ve found yours. It has been four years since Kesha released anything. Though she’s gone through a lot, it is worth the wait. More than enough of us know what it’s like to be and feel abandoned. At times, we aren’t alone, which is the ironic part.

Asking for God to let you die isn’t a walk in a park. You would have to feel worthless, ashamed, and full of failure. At your lowest low. It is a bold act to bare what Kesha has shared. It is far more tumultuous to experience what she has. As she’s written on the Lenny Letter’s website, she has “overcome obstacles.” The talented singer has “channeled her feelings of hopelessness and depression.” There are many people, young and older, who can identify with her pain. It takes a different sort of person to burst from the flames.

“I know that I was never abandoned by my fans, my animals, or my family, but when you are depressed — really, truly depressed — you feel like you have nothing”, says Kesha.

“Even having my kitties sleeping next to me in my darkest of hours couldn’t bring me light. It is in these moments when even the most cynical among us are forced to turn to something other than ourselves — we turn to prayer or something like it. You look past your shame, past your desire to hide, and admit you need help.”

‘Rainbow’, the album, comes out next month on the eleventh. I am looking forward to it. I will support Kesha’s next album. Have a read about ‘Praying’. Indulge and be inspired by Kesha’s essay on <a href="http://www.lennyletter.com/culture/a904/kesha-is-back-with-a-new-single-praying/" target="_blank"Lenny Letter.
