Australian Producer-DJ Wave Racer embeds infectious melodies, sharp Electro-Pop beats, against Neo-Expressionist compositions. Retro-technicolor visuals burst into festival vibes with “Flash Drive” featuring B▲by. Directed by designers Anny Wang & Tim Söderström, both provide stunning 3-D neon whimsical environments through animation. Combining sonic elements from his Australian roots with 90s-inspired game systems, this video brings back that childhood experience to millennials.
In a space of creativity, this iconographic piece is reminiscent of candy-coated, futuristic explosions in the Nickelodeon / Disney / Cartoon Network realm. Referencing classic television series, listed are influences from my perspective, with specific audio and video format in mind:
-
Lisa Deborah Frank Creator: Lisa Frank
Joe Murray Creator & Director: Rocko’s Modern Life
Naoko Takeuchi Visual Artist and Tetsuya Komoro Composer: Sailor Moon
Tom Ruegger Creator and Bruce Broughton Composer: Tiny Toon Adventures
Gerry Chiniquy, Ken Harris Animators and Hanna-Barbera Directors: The Jetsons
Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain Creators and Mark Mothersbaugh Composer: Rugrats
Craig McCracken Creator and Thomas Chase / Steve Rucker / James L. Venable Composers: The Powerpuff Girls
Stephen Hillenburg Creator / Creative Director and Derek Drymon / Tim Hill / Nicholas R. Jennings Animators: SpongeBob SquarePants
All embody the essence of pop-culture. At only 21-years-old, Wave Racer understands the aesthetic and mind-state of music as a whole. This movement will have an impact on many generations to come. Flash Drive USA Tour 2015 kicked off yesterday (September 4) in New York City, and the Flash Drive EP drops October 16 in collaboration with Future Classic.
