Whenever I open my email, I don’t know what to expect. This morning, I can say that I am happy that I lived to hear ‘Smoke Out the Window’ by Tribe Society. When I clicked on the link to watch the video, a guy who looks like he could be one of my friends started to sing over a trendy beat. The visual resonates with me. I can’t count how many times I’ve been on a rooftop in New York City with friends who look like Tribe Society.
From skateboards and yellow cabs to smoke, beards, and dreads, Tribe Society encapsulates boyhood and manhood in America today. Wanting to feel free and wanting to be sedated most of the time, ‘Smoke Out the Window’ has what it takes to become the new all-American stoner anthem that we need right now.
As an A&R, I know that this is the kind of group that a major label would bet on. Tribe Society’s name, sound, look, and attitudes are divine. It couldn’t have come together in a better way. The main guy’s voice is what I miss about the late 80s/early 90s Rock ‘n’ Roll. Personally, I look forward to seeing Tribe Society on late-night television and festival stages in 2017.
‘We Sell Drugs’ is set to release sometime next year.
