From the moment I met Quanna, she rubbed me as an ordinary girl. Shortly after meeting her and another young lady, they played her music videos on a screen. With the apt petite vigor of an authoritative woman and the intelligence of a multifaceted businesswoman, Quanna is refreshingly relatable and feminine, but this is not to say she is comparable to anyone in her league.

When she’s not recording or writing making music, she is working behind-the-scenes producing a new podcast called, CareFreeBlackGirl, which features the perspectives of four women of colour. She is the founder of the movement.

The Savannah, GA-native Brooklyn-based rapper makes music that spans topics of sexuality, education, being a transplant in a big city, self-care, and more. As an A&R who listens to tons of music, Quanna stands out because of her subject matter, cadence, and ability to be relative.

In a recent conversation about “Got That Work,” Quanna shared that she found the producer (BadAzz) on social media. Previous to its release, I was asked to give feedback on the record featuring Mr. Light-Upp (an upstart Dominican artist most known for his ‘catchy’ hooks). I shared my thoughts, and it was applied. Personally, I enjoy the high energy of the track, the use of melody (“What’s Your Fantasy” by Ludacris), and how the two rappers role play on the Bronx-native producer’s instrumental.

Quanna is dropping the “MC” from her name and pushing herself as a well-rounded entertainer. Before now, Quanna was written about on countless music blogs and has touched many stages along the East Coast. For more about the Brooklyn-based protean rapper, follow her on Twitter and visit her new website.

“Got That Work” is the latest release from Quanna’s weekly Sunday Service releases, in which she drops new freestyles and collaborations in a preparation of her new full project.
