hen thinking of bands in Norway, it’s difficult to count out Ylvis. The Norwegian comedy duo’s viral sensation ‘The Fox (What Does The Fox Say?)’ earned more than 681 million views. It’s clear everyone wanted to know what the fox said. To tell you the truth, I still don’t know what he says. I’m afraid of animals and run at the sight of fish in a bowl, but I digress.

I have loved a few bands from Norway. Who can forget A-Ha’s ‘Take On Me’? The song’s unique comic style video won a few awards at the 1986 MTV Music Video Awards; back in a time when people cared about MTV Music Awards. Now, I’m sure everyone just watches MTV for the Real World/Road Rules Challenge or Catfish. To me, A-ha put out a groundbreaking video. They combined moving artwork with real-life; making an amazing video I can put on for my kids right now. They’ll enjoy it.

Personally, I have always been a fan of Metal, every form so this mentioning of bands from Norway would be nothing without Ulver, translation “wolves”. The band that started out as a Black Metal band in the 90s has adopted different genres in their music with every release since. When ‘It’s Not a Sound’ released, they came out with the video. In the video, cartoonish men row a boat through the crowds of people singing beautifully. Then, shooting (what I hope) are guns into the crowd from the top of the cliff. I love it.

Sløtface, with their new release ‘Nancy Drew’, takes on this same idea of the cartoon with the new video, accompanying visuals, created by Norwegian illustrator and animator, Jellyvamps. The guitars are amazing; I love the vocals being sung by Haley Shea. Punk music is my shit, so I blasted it at deafening levels. It made me want more, so I’m excited that the release of their new project is fastly approaching. September 15 is the date. Until then, watch the video. I think I may watch it next time when I’m on acid. That’s my plan. I love acid.
