Yesterday, Nigeria’s Mayorkun released a new project themed around one of the most powerful experiences in life. The Lagos-bred star’s extended play offers five light and fun songs that cover the themes of taking one’s time (‘Lose Control’) with Blxckie, hot undeniable bodies in Calabasas (‘Thermo’), searching and finding the beautiful Amarachi (the Afrobeats dance hit ‘For Daddy’ with nearly four million streams on Spotify), praying/blessing his enemies and preserving his life force (‘My Energy’), and his most recent release, ‘Lowkey!’.

His previous single, ‘Certified Loner (No Competition)’, now with approximately eighteen million plays on Spotify, was released in June 2022. Thus, the “Mayor of Lagos” released music, leaving us feeling the gap/void, but we’re glad he’s back. To celebrate his fulfilling return, stream the ‘Love.. For Free’ EP now.

If it is your first time coming across Mayorkun’s name, music, and likeness, no fret. In February 2016, on Twitter (now X), Nigerian global Afrobeats star Davido discovered him. He released a cover of his song ‘The Money’. As a result, he was signed to the superstar’s record label DMW from 2016-2021, leading to his major label deal with Sony Music West Africa.
