Kamaiyah, I couldn’t say there is a better song that sums up my dating life right now.

If you know me as a friend, you are fully aware. My relationships with men are unusual. Subsequently, based on my experience, I believe that three individuals are equivalent to one ‘perfect’ man or partner. In the past, I’ve tried to be monogamous, or faithful like most people call it. I was successful. Truthfully since my last serious relationship, I haven’t been committed to a soul yet. It just doesn’t work for me.

I don’t look for men. Guys approach me in person and online. My new relationships don’t formally start. Nor do they end. They just overlap. They are fluid and in a void until I want it to end. Depending on who the man is, I’d mention marriage, children or become excessive. If you want a man to leave you alone forever, try it. If he is not interested in marrying you nor having a child with you, he will leave. Listen to why he’s not with his ex-girlfriend. Then, do what she did.

If the guy is clingy and he wants to be with you forever, you have to tell him that he is not the one for you. Then, you have to stop answering his phone calls. If you aren’t strong enough, block the phone number, beloved. Repeat the same activity for your mutual friends. It’s the only way to survive the separation.

But back to Kamaiyah’s ‘Niggas’. I think it is synonymous. She talks about three different men. One for each verse. That isn’t a coincidence. Nor is the Nelly influence that is apparent. In my life, sex isn’t the focus of all of my polyamorous relationships. But it can be. I’d just rather not make my life more complex than it is. Kamaiyah, well done.

PS: Yes, they all know that I am polyamorous. Yes, they are fine with it. Yes, they have a choice. Yes, that’s the choice they made. Yes, they know that I am not looking for a committed relationship, and when I am, yes, they will know. I thought I found love in July. They all knew about it. But it went nowhere. A lot like the last verse of the song.

PPS: Last week, one of them found a condom wrapper in my room. We talked about it. Nothing has changed, and I still get an allowance. Stream the illustrative track below, and get to know me a little better, every day through my articles, as I write my first book.

‘Niggas’ is the fourth track from Kamaiyah’s ‘A Good Night in the Ghetto’:

Update (January 4, 2017): Kamaiyah removed the single from the SoundCloud player. It is now a single. Stream the audio.
