The Pyer Moss Couture 1 fashion show, WAT U IZ, at Madam CJ Walker’s estate will be opened by the last surviving member of Black Panther leadership and civil rights champion Elaine Brown.
Elaine Brown’s words herald another turning point for black culture in the midst of celebrating the 55th anniversary of the Black Panther.
Ms Brown stands out as an activist, writer, reform advocate, recording artist, and Former Chairwoman of the Black Panther Party, who still positively affects cultural, social, and political change with her wit and wisdom. She is well-known for fighting for equality and equity. She is the first and only woman in history to lead the Black Panther Party as chairwoman from 1974-1977. She was appointed by her mentor and comrade Huey Newton.
Elaine Brown aligned the Panther’s cause with the battle against gay oppression at Stonewall, endured the Watt Riots, recorded two albums, authored three books, and founded and multiple organizations in the fight for justice. Please join the Pyers Moss show to hear Brown’s words.
