Busy Beauty’s showerless shave gel is innovative and practical (Review)

By Richardine Bartee

Busy Beauty isn’t clumpy, sticky, or uneven when distributed like some cremes.

When it comes to skin and the amount of hair that grows on it, I am a full-blooded Great Pyrenees or a Belgian Sheepdog. Quite frankly, my family is hairy, genetically-speaking. Most of my immediate relatives (men and women) have thick long hair. Back when afros were popular, they wore them. In my case, my wool curls at the top of my head and is straight at the back so an afro wouldn’t suit me. How do I know? Beauticians and teenagers in the neighbourhood who used to style my hair as a child brought it to my attention.

In regards to the rest of the fur on my body, when it grows it starts off as a straight follicle, and after a certain point, it begins to coil. As you can probably imagine, I have tried the usual hair removal regimens (waxing, threading, cremes, and shaving with the primitive razorblade), but they’ve all come with the price of pain or tediousness that isn’t conducive for a woman like me.

I am busy. So when I received an email about Busy Beauty’s new product, I was curious. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the packaging and design grabbed me. The pale mint green and bubblegum pink against the bold black fonts made a classic 20th-century statement. I felt like it was a product that had my unavailable arse in mind.

“No water needed” and “Stay smooth” read the 3.4 fl oz bottle.

“How?,” I thought. I wanted to find out, so I replied to the email inquiry.

It is smooth. When applied, it is not cold. I store it in my bedroom, so I think it keeps a room temperature. Busy Beauty isn’t clumpy, sticky, or uneven when distributed like some cremes.

It is a clear ointment, which is a good thing for me. Because if the showerless shave gel falls on your favourite jeans or another surface, it will not leave an embarrassing stain. The wipe off / clean up process is straightforward. There isn’t one. You can rub the excess gel into your skin as a balm, or salve.

Also, I enjoy its transparency because you can see when the hair is gone. On a personal note, I am thankful that the shaving gel smells fresh like a facial wash and not like an active site with men at work.

I’ve questioned if it were a mental satisfaction or not, but in defence of the product, it wasn’t. I’ve used it more than three times. Your skin does feel better. It isn’t dry. Nor do you have to find an additional lotion that might irritate you.

I wish I owned more. The gel’s natural ingredients (oats, ginger, tea tree, clove extracts, and eucalyptus) are the trick that helps to boost circulation, reduce inflammation, stop razor burn and allow a natural glow to shine through. It is important to know that the product is also cruelty-free, vegan, environmentally friendly, paraben-free, and free of alcohol.

Moreover, it is affordable ($9.97 right now on their website). You will average fifteen (leg) shaves per bottle. And last but not least, it is TSA-approved. So ideally your ambitious, overworked tail can travel the world with Busy Beauty. How thoughtful of the company?
