Watch Houston-based artists Cliassy Fp and DJ Anarchy’s ‘Party Done’ featuring Shiiloh and Jontae Brown
If you were outside during the early 2000s, you get and remember the reference from the spicy Jamaican Dancehall Sean Paul’s ‘Get Busy/Like Glue’.
Sourcing inspiration from the 2002 classic party anthem, Trinidadian artists Cliassy Fp and DJ Anarchy unite on ‘Party Done’ with fellow Caribbean artists Shiiloh (St Vincent) and Jontae Brown (Jamaica) pull up to a function where they plan to dance from the dusk to the morning. In the lyrics, the primary artist approaches an attractive lady. Delving into her business, he asks for her relationship status and if he could get a chance to be with her. According to Fp, there’s something special about her and he doesn’t want to leave without her. Next, Shiiloh sings, adding a feminine perspective to the hard-hitting beat, calling out his less-than-nice ways and revealing like most men, that he enjoys the chase/race. Watch the official video directed by Rodney Pinz below to see them having a good time at the house party.

Watch DJ Neptune’s crap table visual for ‘Normal Day’ featuring N6, Ice Prince, Young Lunya, Magnito, and Khaligraph Jones
Less than a week ago, award-winning DJ Neptune, known for his work as a disc jockey and record producer, showed us how an average day in the life of a Rap star goes. Amid alcoholic beverages and gambling, the five rappers discuss lifestyle differences, bending your girl like Omah Lay, needing a jet soon and more over the Drill beat. The Nigerian producer featured Nigeria’s Igbo rapper N6 and Angas rapper Ice Prince, Tanzania’s Young Lunya, Abuja-born rapper-songwriter Magnito, and Kenya’s Khaligraph Jones. It seems people are focusing on African rappers now; making it feel like an upward trajectory. Reportedly, they weren’t receiving support from the substantial platforms in their respective countries. Let’s see how it goes moving forward forward.

Watch Jamaican artist Protoje’s twilight drive visual for ‘Mariposa’
[media-credit name=”Riddims World” link=”https://riddimsworld.com/singles/protoje-mariposa/” width=1000 align=”center”]
[/media-credit]A week ago, Jamaican singer-songwriter Protoje released a mostly blurry visual for his record ‘Mariposa’, not connected to the fast-moving fires currently in Mariposa, California. As the ‘Who Knows’ singer drives from the seat of a foreign car, the couple stops at a gas station and sings to his curly-haired beautiful partner about taking her time and what it will be like when it’s time to take their relationship to the next level. Between the scenic night drive and their breezy walk on the beach, they parlay, dance in the street, and enjoy one another’s company. See the lighthearted Samo-directed visual now below.

Watch Nigeria’s Azanti and PsychoYP’s visualiser for the self-reflecting ‘I Know’
[media-credit name=”Instagram” link=”https://www.instagram.com/p/C69RCuAJCKL/?img_index=1″ width=819 align=”center”]
[/media-credit]Today, Nigerian artists Azanti and PsychoYP shared the official visualiser to their short yet suspenseful track, ‘I Know’, with familiar American pop sensibilities for the production choice. In the fresh and appealing visual, Toronto-based R&B singer-songwriter Azanti dances wildly in a cowboy-themed outfit as his frequent collaborator PsychoYP opens the track, rapping about fighting his demons, the pressure of it all, and sadly lacking peace of mind. For his contribution, the ‘Time Difference’ songster chooses to focus on and save himself because he isn’t ready to be in love, a fair self-assessment.

The Abuja-bred artists released their joint project ‘YP & Azanti, Vol 2’ on May 31, 2024. If you haven’t, stream the record via this link.

Watch Liberian Afrobeats artist Spize’s video for ‘Melo’
Randomly, after watching Nigerian singers Konstance and Majeeed‘s video for ‘My Heart’, YouTube suggested another video. To my surprise, it belonged to a fairly new Liberian artist named Spize. In the song’s lyrics, he sings about falling for someone (Melo or Melody) special and promises to keep her smiling. Further into the song, he continues and states he doesn’t have time to break her heart and that her sweet love is his destiny. Check out the video below. It’s directed by Para Shoot, shot in various locations on the coast of Liberia, at the beach, aerial shots of Libassa Ecolodge, either Hermit Falls or Monrovia Canyon, and the bustling Benson Street, located in Montserrado.

Watch Afrobeats artist Konstance’s video for ‘My Heart’ with one of Lagos’ best singer-songwriters Majeeed
According to a press release, Afrobeats upstart Konstance has co-signs from Nigerian music industry heavyweights like Don Jazzy and Tiwa Savage.
[media-credit name=”Photo: Courtesy of the artist” width=1000 align=”center”]
[/media-credit]Six days ago, Nigerian Afrobeats singer Konstance teamed up with fellow star Majeeed to release the official music video for ‘My Heart’. In the short Bushboy Films direction, the Lagosian lies on five different mattresses, like in the Danish literary fairy tale, ‘The Princess and the Pea’, near a static blob of a being. He sings to ask if he gives her peace, if he puts a smile on her face, and generally wants to know what’s on her mind.
After pacing the bedroom on the corded phone and standing in the void with cupid arrows piercing his body, he turns on an old desktop computer and sees her moving there duplicated on the screen. Next, the Lagos State University student sings about wanting to buy her man the world if she could. In the next frame, Konstance swings from a chandelier in a red room whilst carolling about potentially rewarding him if he takes away her pain.
For someone who emerged into the music business last year, the lead singer, just nineteen, has quite the resume. She collaborated with Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins on ‘The Color Purple’ soundtrack, won a Breakthrough Talent prize at the Silverbird Awards last year, acted in Idris Elba-direction ‘Dust to Dream’ alongside British music icon Seal, and was a top ten finalist on Nigerian Idol!
The single ‘My Heart’ is a taste of what her forthcoming debut EP ‘In the Beginning’ could be. In anticipation of what’s to come, watch the well-directed music video featuring Majeeed below.
