Last week, Nigerian Afrobeats Adekunle Gold released the official video for his revealing track, ‘5 Star’. Over the Kel-P produced hit, the Lagos State native artist remembers the nineties when he often asked God for mercy to relieve him of his perpetual pain from being born with sickle cell anaemia. In mid-July, AG Baby sent out a newsletter with a note that detailed his condition. He shared that his “body caves in once in a while, some symptoms come back”, but the disease has taught him resilience.

From Gold’s unfortunate pangs and suffering comes the bonny earworm we cannot get enough of. If you’ve been feeling down or sad about things happening in your life, turn on this song and remember that you can get through anything with God’s mercy. Watch the movie theatre-themed visual directed by the one and only TG Omori below to join the living legend in his happiness.
If you weren’t aware, Adekunle Gold was born into the Kosoko royal family.
