Spotify rolls out new verification badge to protect real artists
The streaming giant’s latest update aims to give listeners more trust, context, and clarity in the AI era.

Spotify is making artist discovery more transparent with the launch of its new Verified by Spotify badge. Announced April 30, the badge will appear on eligible artist profiles and in search with a light green checkmark, signalling that Spotify has reviewed the profile for authenticity and trust.
The update arrives as AI-generated music and impersonation concerns continue to reshape the streaming landscape. To qualify, artists must show consistent listener activity, remain in good standing with Spotify’s platform policies, and demonstrate signs of a real artist presence, such as social accounts, concert dates, or merchandise. The company says AI-generated or AI-persona profiles are not eligible at launch.
The company also plans to roll out a beta artist details section, offering listeners more context around milestones, release activity, and touring history. For independent artists, the badge could become a valuable trust signal.
