This week’s #5NewVideos list consists of Vince Staples, Night Lovell, Sivan Talmor, and more.
Vince Staples “Prima Donna” (Personal)
A long way from “Señorita,” Vince Staples seems to give us what we want in the “Prima Donna” video. Naked bums all in his face at the beginning of the video, things take an odd turn when he is dropped off in an unknown parking lot. If this is the sort of fear, trips or paranoia that comes with fame, sign me up and give me the meds with the most potent effects. Watch the Nabil-directed video below.
Night Lovell “Contraband” (Personal)
Night Lovell’s “Contraband” was one of the videos to watch after “Prima Donna”. Before today, this moment, I haven’t heard of the 19-year-old Ottawa, Canada-based rapper. Curious because of the appealing video thumbnail, I clicked on it. Now, it is one of the songs saved on my Apple Music account because it makes me dance. Watch the video below, and learn from his statement about stress. It’s a good mantra.
Roy Wood$ “Gwan Big Up Urself” (Personal)
Brampton, Canada-native singer-songwriter and rapper Roy Wood$ taps into his Jamaican roots to bring us “Gwan Big Up Urself”. From the barber shop to scenes of a monster truck, the young OVO Sound artist does ‘cultural’ dances on the Trojans’ field. Also, a cameo comes from Kardinal Offishall, a celebrated Toronto artist-producer. Watch the Christo Anesti and Glenn Michael direction below.
Ty Dolla $ign “Zaddy” (Personal)
Obtaining an Asian (artificial intelligence) woman as his main girl, the Los Angeles-native singer-songwriter Ty Dolla $ign gets intimate with a fembot. Though some of its viewers have questioned the authenticity of the hook — mentions of a ‘fatty’ — Ty doesn’t seem to be phased (and he shouldn’t). “Zaddy” is a new single from Ty Dolla $ign’s forthcoming album, Campaign. Watch the new technologically advanced video below.
Sivan Talmor “Fire” (Submitted)
Israeli singer-songwriter Sivan Talmor sings a song so enchanting you’d feel like you were in Quentin Tarantino movie. Most people to recommit to long-term relationships, so Sivan used it as a driving force of inspiration. I’m guilty of it too. Why? Comfort is a hell of a state of mind. Who doesn’t like to be comfortable? Watch “Fire” now.
