If you’ve been listening to African music for the past decade, you’ve seen women’s names become titles of songs; Yaw Tog doesn’t invent the wheel. Taking the time to bless us with his even-toned melodious delivery, Ghana’s breakout star Yaw Tog lets us know how ‘Sophia’ has entered his eye over the Khendi Beatz production. The fine girl from Capetown, South Africa, makes his heartbeat. Best known for his monster hit ‘Sore’, the Kumasi-native rapper is maturing—he’s nineteen—and showing different sides of his artistry.

If we have it our way, there will be a collaboration between Yaw Tog and fellow Ghanaian singer Gyakie soon. ‘Sophia’ sounds like the kind of record she would be on. Maybe a remix, perhaps? Without further ado, check it out below and note that her name isn’t pronounced the American way.

It is more like “So fire” than “So-fee-uh”.
