Wizkid and Asake score first major hit in 2026

I guess raw Afrobeats is back. This time, trust these two deliver REAL music, with the lead single being “Jogodo”.

The concept was announced by Wizkid and Asake last year during their Apple Music interview. Wizkid, a Grammy award-winning artist and director, announced a forthcoming collab project with Asake, who was also nominated for the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards. The said project is set to be released next Friday, with the tracklist ready to go.

At this stage in his career, Wizkid doesn’t collaborate for relevance; he collaborates for legacy. Every move is curated, and every release feels intentional. Asake’s journey, on the other hand, represents momentum. Few artists in recent Afrobeats history have risen as quickly and as convincingly. What separates Asake from hype cycles is consistency. His music doesn’t chase trends.

With over 2 million+ streams on Spotify, “Jogodo” doesn’t try to over-explain itself. It’s already #1 in Nigeria and has debuted on Spotify’s Global chart within 24 hours of release. It is music designed to move people first.

At a time when Afrobeats is more global than ever, Wizkid and Asake are choosing to zoom back in on sound, culture, and intention. That choice alone makes this release significant.

If “Jogodo” is any indication, this isn’t about chasing numbers. It’s about reminding listeners where the heartbeat of Afrobeats truly comes from, and if raw Afrobeats really is back, then these are exactly the two artists you’d trust to bring it home.
