Last December, OWSLA partnered with the electronic music-focused non profit organization Bridges For Music to launch Nestivus, a campaign which lowers monthly fees for new members to the label’s online subscription program, OWSLA IV. Users also benefited from exclusive new goodies, including downloads, merch, and never-before-heard remixes, with all proceeds proudly to be given to charity.
The result of the campaign was monumental, with a marked increase in subscribers and social interaction, and most importantly, $7692.46 raised for Bridges For Music. These profits, made from new and existing subscriptions for that month, have been donated in order to assist Bridges For Music in their founding of a new music studio in Langa Township, Cape Town, South Africa, a township with a vibrant music scene where house music has become a driving force for the youth. Bridges For Music actively supports electronic music development in developing countries, leaving a positive impact in disadvantaged communities and helping to raise global awareness about local issues through music. The organization embodies the mantra that, in our globalized world, electronic music is a universal language for giving back and dismantling socio-economic boundaries between the rich and poor, and OWSLA is humbled to have helped in that cause.
Bridges For Music is now in the process of creating the first school dedicated to music and multimedia in that area, which will give local artists access to the right facilities for developing their existing creative skills. This money will used to work on the first phase of that school, which includes the creation of some smaller production suites and DJ booths. Humbled to have helped in that cause.
