Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
|
If you’re a music lover like me and you spend most of your life plugged into a smart device or a personal computer, you might favor a thing like Neverending Playlist. Neverendingplaylist.com is an online service where you can listen to your favourite musicians (with proper representation, of course) for free. Your girlfriend’s anti-folk demo might not be on this site yet, but there’s always hope. When I stumbled upon it, promptly, the website asked who would I like to listen to. Swiftly, I picked Ski Beatz. Looking at their setup, it seems to generate songs from YouTube uploads only. When thinking about how listening to the music for free will help the artists, soon, I answered my own question.
Apparently, The Echo Nest is the only company with a database of 30 million songs in the world and “almost 1.5 million artists, with detailed information on each down to the pitch of every note in a guitar solo” and that is the answer. Now, that’s what I call “genius”.
Here’s The How:
According to Fast Company, The Echo Nest makes “Pandora look like a transistor radio”. Damn. It has been written that “thousands of independent developers use their stuff every day to build the next generation of music experiences.” So, as you can imagine, they work closely with the biggest names in the business. If you are an artist (aspiring or major), I suggest you get familiar with The Echo Nest. Now. Neverendingplaylist is just there because it can be.
*Dom Kennedy’s music is not available on this site. Funnily, The Echo Nest works with Spotify. Please, someone send Dom the memo.
