Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2026 inductees
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Somber yet sweet, “N2DEEP” is the sincere, handsomely-crafted reminder of what it’s like to be poor and from the streets as an African-American male in the United States. Pangs and disappointments are in abundance and in his world, going to college is just a dream. In his world, paying bills take precedence over education and self-respect. Often, drug dealing becomes his base method of providing for his family because he’s not given fair shots at opportunities like men of other races or geographical landscapes. Thus, he lives with doubts — doubts of ever making it into a kinder (or perfect) realm. He lives without feeling valuable or worthy because of the not-so-kind things he’s done to survive and provide. He’s been dealt an ugly hand.

From selling his soul “to the hot one” to pedaling cocaine to repenting for his mound of sins, the Detroit-based emcee details the notion of being in too deep (“N2DEEP”). Do you know why people sell their souls? Perhaps in hopes of an easier time on Earth? Maybe — but according to the hook of the song, courting the devil isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.

Hey, I could be wrong. This may or may not be the case. The artist will have to confirm or deny — but in my opinion — asking the heavenly father for forgiveness is one hell of a context clue.

Like the bone-chilling tales, Nas shared on his debut album, CrackKillz Da G.O.D. ushers in a ghostly nostalgic narrative of opulent urban contemporary music we’ve been searching for on the mesa of the underground.

If I have it my way like Burger King, he’ll be signed to Mass Appeal Records within two years. If I don’t have it my way, Nas will listen to the song within that same frame of time. There’s no better time than now, so stream the Tron Musik masterpiece and send this shit to Nas if you know him.
