Kanye West faces France ban as Marseille concert collapses
The controversy forces Kanye West to postpone major European tour date amid government pressure.

Kanye West, now legally known as Ye, has postponed his highly anticipated Marseille concert after French authorities moved to block the performance entirely. The show, scheduled for June 11 at the Orange Vélodrome, quickly became a political flashpoint amid growing backlash over the artist’s past antisemitic remarks.
France’s Interior Minister, Laurent Nuñez, reportedly explored legal avenues to prevent the concert, whilst Marseille’s mayor, Benoît Payan, publicly declared that the rapper was “not welcome” in the city.
The controversy stems from Ye’s history of inflammatory statements, including prior expressions of admiration for Adolf Hitler and the release of a highly criticised track in 2025. French officials argued that allowing the performance could promote hate speech, intensifying pressure on organisers to cancel the event.
In response, Ye announced via social media that he would postpone the show “until further notice”, citing careful consideration and a desire to avoid further disruption.
The situation reflects a wider international backlash. The United Kingdom recently denied Ye entry, leading to the cancellation of a major festival appearance, whilst other countries continue to assess restrictions on his performances.
