Last month, Kryoman performed at the Latin Grammys and released a remix track for Yellow Claw’s “Legends”, the trio that I wrote about for MTV IGGY last year. Now, he’s interviewing with me about the aforementioned, what he thinks about GrungeCake and what’s next. See Kryoman on tour, we hear he’s so good.
Where does the name “Kryoman” derive? Did you always know you were going to be a musician? What were your beginnings like?
It’s been my stage name as long as I can remember. It originally came from the robot and is now my DJ name. I always wanted to connect with people artistically, and music is a great way to do it. I have been in music since I was 15 years old, been subjected to many areas of the music industry from the rave era to Ibiza and to the rise of electronic music in the USA. I’ve been deep in it the whole time.
What was it like to perform at the Latin Grammys? Were you nervous?
It is my second time round, but this was way bigger. And, absolutely, being nervous is a standard part of being an artist, we all get it and believe me it definitely makes the pay off of a perfect performance much more rewarding.
How did you discover the Yellow Claw track? What made you want to remix this track?
By accident actually, I found a vocal stem for free download online. Got mad love for Yellow Claw, and we had the perfect drop for it. Really, it was that simple.
When you first heard the name “GrungeCake”, what came to mind?
Emo, but when I did some research you guys are fresh to death.
