TikTok has admitted fault. The platform says a ‘moderator error’ delayed the removal of a livestream showing celebrity blogger Perez Hilton harming himself.
Automated systems flagged the stream within minutes, TikTok says. Human review, however, stalled. The livestream stayed up for roughly fifteen minutes—long enough for viewers to alert emergency services. Miami-Dade police arrived at Hilton’s home Tuesday evening. He was hospitalised shortly after.

TikTok says it alerted law enforcement proactively. Subsequent livestreams from the account were pulled within ninety seconds, whilst the account itself was banned for violating Community Guidelines.
The incident reopens a familiar debate. Automated detection keeps improving. Human moderation, the actual last line of defence, remains the weak link. For a platform built on real-time content, minutes matter enormously.
TikTok has not detailed what, specifically, went wrong.
