British Grime star Ghetts was sentenced to twelve years in prison. The sentencing took place at London’s Old Bailey court.

The artist, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, previously pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving. The incident happened in October 2025 in Ilford, East London.

According to prosecutors, Ghetts was driving a BMW when he struck Yubin Tamang, a twenty-year-old student from Nepal. Tamang was crossing the road at the time of the collision.

Authorities said the rapper was driving far above the speed limit. Reports indicated he was travelling close to 70 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. In addition, CCTV footage showed the vehicle ignoring several traffic signals shortly before the crash.

After the collision, Ghetts did not stop to help the victim. Instead, prosecutors said he left the scene and drove home. Emergency services later transported Tamang to hospital. However, he died two days later from his injuries.

During the court hearing, Tamang’s family delivered emotional statements. They spoke about the pain of losing a young son who had moved to the United Kingdom to pursue his education and future.

The judge described the driving as dangerous and reckless. As a result, the court handed down a twelve-year prison sentence. Furthermore, Ghetts was banned from driving for seventeen years.

Despite expressing remorse in court, the seriousness of the offence influenced the final ruling.

For many fans, the sentencing marks a dramatic shift in the career of one of Grime’s most respected lyricists. Ghetts built his reputation over two decades in British music. His catalogue helped shape the modern Grime scene.

However, the tragedy has now overshadowed that legacy. Above all, the case highlights the devastating consequences of reckless driving.
Meanwhile, tributes continue for Tamang, whose death has deeply affected both his family and community.
